On August 17th, the movie, "To All the Boys I've Loved Before" was released. The movie follows a shy, book-loving teen girl named Lara Jean Covey who has written love letters to the five crushes she has had in the past. One day, they're all sent out.
"To All the Boys" has received positive reviews - the fans most likely being those who read the book and other fellow book-lovers. If you're one of them, chances are that you have a little bit of Lara Jean in you. Here is a list of how.
1. You've forgotten about hanging out with your siblings because you were so caught up in a book.
GiphyLet me just finish this chapter, kay, sis?
2. Your siblings feel bad for your shyness so they let you hang out with them and their friends.
GiphyYou aren't entirely sure how to articulate your wants and desires so you just hang out with your siblings and their friends because, well... they're right there.
3. You write your feelings out to understand them better.
GiphyWhen you feel such intense emotions and have no way of letting anyone know them without feeling judged, writing them out seems to work.
4. You always imagine about what-if's, which then turn themselves in your very own fantasy.
GiphyThe mind is pretty powerful. And since there is nothing impossible to dream, why not shoot for the stars?
5. When you read something for the second time, it's so much better than the first.
You have a favorite book that you love to read over and over again because there's nothing like the experience of it.
6. You secretly *love* drama.
GiphyThere's nothing better than when some salacious piece of gossip comes out.
7. You don't know how to say goodbye to your things.
Your family pretty much thinks you are a hoarder, but you're not. You just can't bare to let go of the things you love. Everything has a sentimentality to it, after all.
8. You don't like being the center of attention. At all.
GiphyYou feel so out of place when the spotlight is on you.
9. You don't like not knowing what's going to happen next.
With a book, you can always skip a few pages. You can't do that with life.
10. What you love is so important to you that when it is lost, it hurts.
GiphyGoing through loss and grief is pretty rough. It's part of the reason why you turn to books - so you don't have to face it regularly.
11. Your head is so much in the clouds that when it comes to routine tasks (such as driving), you may or may not be so good at it.
GiphyAnd you may have once hit your crush, embarrassing you to eternity and back.
12. You only have a few good friends.
GiphyYou know that having one or two quality friends is better than having a lot of "fake" friends.
13. Having to find a place to sit at lunch-time is a nightmare when your friends aren't there.
GiphyWhy can't you just eat and read in private?
14. You're totally oblivious to when boys flirt with you.
GiphyHe has to steal a page out of the book you're reading for you to pay attention to him.
15. Your Saturday nights are spent at home, either reading or watching reruns.
GiphyIs anyone up for a Golden Girls marathon?
16. When you freak out, you faint to avoid the inevitable confrontation.
GiphyOr hey, maybe kiss Peter Kavinsky???
17. You are totally oblivious to other people's sexual orientation.
GiphyEveryone knows about someone's sexual orientation before you do.
18. You tend to imagine things or conversations that aren't really there.
GiphyYou just have such a highly imaginative mind that when you daydream or get lost in thought, it seems to come to life before your eyes.
19. You don't tell people what is bothering you willingly.
It's just such private information that you don't want to seem like you are placing a burden on others.
20. Everything you do has to be written down.
GiphyIncluding your scheme about pretending to be Peter Kavinsky's girlfriend.
21. "You have the references of an 80-year-old woman."
GiphyI mean, if Peter says so, that must mean it's true.
22. You don't know how to share big news.
GiphyBecause you don't want to be the center of attention. And you don't like that.
23. YOU HATE PARTIES.
GiphyThe people, the noise, the uncertainty... you are happy when it's time to go home.
24. You have your own unique style.
GiphyYou buy vintage on Etsy and pull it off. No matter what your arch nemesis says.
25. You may be a scaredy cat, but you don't let your fears control you.
It's just the first time that scares you though - you are looking to get the most out of the experience and you don't want to screw it up. By the time the second or third experience comes, you are a pro.
26. You can be a *little* judgey.
GiphyWhy are you so judgey? I mean, they did say to not judge a book by its cover...
27. You may be quiet, but you definitely have a lot of opinions.
Even though you don't speak up all the time, you do have opinions. So when you finally feel comfortable with someone, you will share your thoughts with them.
29. Things sound better in books than they do in real life.
Books have a way of romanticizing just about everything to the point that real life seems so boring in comparison.
30. You read to avoid reality.
GiphyYou spend the majority of your time getting comfortable with a hot cup of tea, a blanket, and a new book.
32. You have that one friend who has crazy adventures and even crazier opinions.
And she's always there for you, even when you need a little encouragement to get out of your comfort zone.
33. You always have a book on handy.
GiphyYou know, in case you get bored somewhere and have nothing better to do.
34. "You can be so dense sometimes."
What you think other people want does not always mean that's what they really want.
35. If you do have a love life, you prefer to keep it hush-hush.
You don't want everyone to know everything about your relationship, after all.
36. You always have your sibling or friend save you from a crisis.
GiphyThey always know exactly what to do to make sure you're safe and happy.
37. However, in spite of all of this, "some part of you doesn't want everything in your life to be a fantasy."
GiphyTime to set down your book and start finding love like Lara Jean.
Books are great to escape - movies, too. You find yourself in a character and root for them throughout. But you have to remember that you have a life to live, too. Take a moment to stop reading and binge-watching to do what you would love to do.
Don't let your dreams be a small fantasy. Live them out. Dare to get out of your comfort zone.
After all, Lara Jean wouldn't have gone out with Peter and even developed feelings for him if it weren't for the letters getting out.
