There Is Nothing Like Lake Life

Donuts and friendship bracelets make the world go round.

There Is Nothing Like Lake Life
Personal

My best friend and I have traveling three hours to her family cabin at the lake, for more years than we can count. The water of Table Rock Lake is where we learned to have fun, love others and always try new things. Although I have been visiting this lake frequently since I was 10, We always find new things to do each time.

As first year college students, going on year 19 of being alive, we chose to create friendship bracelets on our most recents trips. If you haven't made friendship bracelets since you were a child, I would highly recommend it as a summer to do with your bffs. On our most recent trip to the lake house, we chose to venture out on the boat past where we had ever been.

In the evening is the prime boating time when the sun isn't burning hot and you're not sweating gallons of water. The boat ride around the lake is very pleasurable due to the breathtaking landscape and the serene feeling while you sit in the front of the boat with your hair blowing directly behind you without a single care in the world. There is plenty to see while out on the lake, such as the countless houses hidden between trees.

On this particular trip around the lake, my friend and her sister found a cove with some layered rock and boats huddled around it. As we made our way closer inside the cove we began to see what looked like people jumping from the rocks at different levels. And I am not one for heights but promised my friend I would get out and swim with her. As we put down the anchor and grabbed life vests, I knew she was going to push me to try something new.

Once I dove into the water, I decided that trying something that scared me and that I had never done was what the lake was all about. Once I finally climbed up the stacked and jagged rocks, I decided it just wasn't for me, but my friend did not let me off that simply.

As we stood on the ledge, minutes passed and as she tried to use multiple ways to convince me that it would be okay, she finally promised me my absolute favorite food of all time- donuts! She didn't have the whole world out of her mouth before I was mid air and screaming my way down to the water. I promised her I would never go cliff jumping again- until that promise was broken many times over the next 20 minutes. Theres nothing like best friends, trying new things and donuts!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
