Many of you may have seen an article making its rounds around social media over the past weeks about "lazy college girls" wearing nike shorts and leggings to their classes. If you haven't read the article, here's the basics of it. It was written by a college woman, shaming other fellow college women for the ways they dress, claiming that wearing athleisure attire is lazy and somehow degrading. She makes several points throughout the article that make it clear she believes the way she dresses every day puts her above other women.
The whole article is nothing but a woman bragging about the time she has to pamper herself and shame other women for what they wear to their 8 am, so here is a response from a gal speaking for all my fellow women who struggle to even find a clean t-shirt to wear for their morning class.
1. "Every night, I spend one hour preparing myself for the following day."
Well, sis, I'm so glad that you have the time to dedicate one whole hour to "preparing" yourself for the next day. I'm sorry... but who actually has the time to do this? I'm not even really sure that it's necessary, but all power to you for having yourself together.
2. "I like to shower up to three times a day"
Girl.... what?
I, too shower before bed. But nowhere during my nightly routine is there yoga or time for laying out an outfit and two backups. After spending hours on homework, I then shower, throw on the nearest t-shirt, sloppily braid my wet hair so my dead ends aren't frizzy in the morning, and finally crawl my tired ass into bed.
3. "After I wash my mask off and end the night with yoga, I slump into an 8-hour slumber until I wake up and work out again."
Are you sure you're a college student? After I rush through my nightly routine and crawl into bed, I struggle and fight with my anxiety to get a clear enough head to finally fall asleep. After about 5 hours of being in and out of sleep, I hit the snooze button a few times before I have to fight with myself, yet again, to roll out of bed. Now, this is where I throw on my Nike shorts, oversized t-shirt, and hat so that I can make it to my 9:30 on time. This is where you seem to have a problem with me, and I'm not quite sure where you find it merited.
