You Know You Are A 90's Kid When...

You Know You Are A 90's Kid When...

I was born in 1994, and that alone would make it a great year. (LOL JK. I am not that conceited.) But, besides the fact that I was born, the 90's was a time of great things. This was when you, or maybe that was just me, were in your prime. Your biggest worries were cooties and spelling quizzes. Things were easy breezy. School? Unimportant. Boys? A non-issue. Friends? Your whole grade was your friend. (We all know how much nicer kids are than teens/young adults/adults.)

When I look back on old pictures of these wonder years, there are definitely some things that characterized this period of my life and all other 90's kids. These are things that will make you nostalgic for your younger years and the great days of being a 90's kid.

You know you are a 90's kid when...

  • A (pink) Razr phone automatically meant you were cool
  • Limited Too was the ONLY brand that mattered
  • Having your own line on the home phone was synonymous with being an 'adult'
  • Everyone was a dancer/gymnast
  • TRL, The Amanda Show, The Real World, and All That were the only relevant TV shows
  • Crossroads (A Britney Spears classic) was your favorite movie
  • Watching an American Pie movie was one of the most scandalous things you could do
  • You either had a sleepover birthday party with 10+ girls, or you didn't have a party
  • Mario Kart wasn't just a hobby; it was a way of life #Nintendo64s4lyfe
  • Man Hunt/Capture the Flag was your entire social life
  • M.A.S.H. was the single determining factor of your future
  • Your sweatpants had to have 'cheer' or 'dance' on the butt to be cool
  • You had more stuffed animals than friends
  • The carnival that came to your local grocery store parking lot was a BIG FREAKING DEAL
  • The mall/movie theatre/Starbucks was the best hangout, at least until your mom had to come get you
  • Turning 16 seemed like the only thing that mattered
  • Your bathroom at school was unisex and still in your classroom
  • HitClips and a walkman were constantly attached to your ears
  • The morning announcements at school were still on an intercom
  • Having a field trip at school gave you the same feeling as Christmas morning
  • Arbor Day, Presidents Day, Valentines Day, and any other holiday automatically meant you were doing nothing in school that day
  • PE consisted of learning to square dance and Jump Rope for Heart (which you never actually won the cool prizes for)
  • Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts were still a cool thing to do
  • Guy and girl parties were everything
  • The last day of school was a holiday that consisted of water balloon fights and treats from your mom
  • Field day at school was the best day of the year
  • Chorus was the "cool" extracurricular to do
  • College and not living with your parents wasn't even a thought in your head
  • Day to day life was as simple as riding your Razor Scooter in the front yard or roller skating around the neighborhood with your best friends

These were good times all around, and as a college student, sometimes I wish I could go back to the simple life of being a 90's kid. But, the best thing to remember is that we had it good growing up, and I know I wouldn't trade being a 90's kid for anything.

So cheers (with your Volt, Sprite Remix, or Bug Juice) to the 90's kids of America.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
