Knoebels Grove, located in Elysburg PA, has been a yearly trip for my family and I for as long as I can remember. The amusement park is my absolute favorite for so many reasons. Just this past weekend my family visited again for the first time in a couple of years and it brought back the reasons why I love it so much. Knoebels is one of those places that needs to make it on your family vacation list every year.
One of the reasons that my parents love Knoebels so much is that it is the largest free admission amusement park in the US. Unlike other big amusement parks, you don't have to pay to visit Knoebels. It can be a pain for parents going to amusement parks because they don't want to have to spend the money for them to get into the park just to walk around and watch their children ride the rides. The fact that you don't have to pay to ride is one of the best things about Knoebels. My parents love taking me there because they aren't huge fans of amusement parks meaning they don't have to waste any money paying for them. Plus parking is free, so unless you want to ride the rides the park is absolutely free.
Knoebels offers the best admission ticket options I've ever seen. I'm the type of person who doesn't like roller coasters. Luckily, Knoebels offers multiple ticket buying options. They have a basic pass which includes all rides but the roller coasters and basic pass including coasters. The ride all day passes are great to buy for the kiddies who know they want to go on a lot of rides. Another option that Knoebels gives visitors is the option of buying ticket packets. Each ride is designated at a specific price so, for example, $1.50. If you're a parent who wants to join your child on only a few rides you can buy the ticket booklet. The booklet gives you a certain amount of money in tickets so that you can ride the rides. My parents enjoy this part of Knoebels because they can get a booklet of tickets and ride the rides they want to without having spent the money for admission.
The reason that I love Knoebels so much is that I am like I said before, not a huge fan of roller coasters. Knoebels offers some of the best rides for people who don't like huge thrill rides like me. The park offers more than 60 rides including two wooden roller coasters, a carousel created in 1913, and a haunted house. Not only are the ride selections great, some of the rides are known across the US. One of my family's favorite rides is the bumper cars. There is something special about the bumper cars at Knoebels compared to every other amusement park. The bumper cars are even critically acclaimed the best bumper cars in America. Along with their bumper cars, Knoebels has been acknowledged as one of the Top 10 Family Friendly Amusement Parks in the United States by Travel Channel. Knoebels rides contain so much history and are so unchanging that I think that's why I like the park so much. I am not saying that the park hasn't added new rides and attractions it's that the ones they have are so time-withstanding it makes them special. Knoebels carousel is one of my other favorite rides. The carousel was built in 1913 and is the second oldest attraction at the park. The carousel actually has a working ring dispenser. For anyone who doesn't know what that is, it is a large arm that extends allowing riders on the outside horses to grab steel rings. The rider who gains the brass ring receives the cost of the ride in tickets. My other favorite ride is the antique cars in which you get to drive a replica of an antique car underneath one of the roller coasters. Knoebels offers so many rides for so many different ages it's hard to go wrong.
Knoebels is the absolute perfect amusement park to bring the kids. The staff are all willing to help, the rides are undeniably amazing, and the prices are hard to beat. Celebrating its 90th anniversary, the park truly does its motto of "making new memories the old fashion way " the justice it deserves.
