The key to happiness is not what you think it is. There is no formula. There are no predetermined requirements. There is not a set path. Yours is not the same as your mom's or your best friend's or anyone else's, because what makes them happy may not make you happy. This varies so much because everyone is a unique individual with different goals, ideals, preferences, etc. As simple and cliched as it sounds, the key to happiness is what makes you happy. Even though this statement seems obvious, so many people overlook it and try to connect their happiness to external factors.
In journals, magazines, on TV, and even in real life, people constantly try and attach a certain entity with happiness. Some of the most common ones are love, money, and success. But are these the things that really make people happy? For some people this answer is yes. I agree that these goals can definitely increase levels of happiness, but I do not think that they are required. While success and love can contribute to happiness, they should not be the sole producers. Instead, they should be benefits.
Hopefully, you are successful at doing what makes you happy, and in love with the person who makes you the happiest. You should not have a job that you hate, but are successful at. Sure, you may make a ton of money, but if you aren’t happy is it worth it? Yeah, everyone needs to have some money, but everyone also needs to absolutely love every part of their life. It would certainly be hard to be happy if you know you'll look back and only have regrets about not doing what you loved.
Besides thinking that one single value will contribute to happiness, the next biggest mistake that people make is looking for happiness. The feelings of pure joy, adoration, appreciation, and love can not be sought out. Rather, they should come as a result of you doing what makes you the happiest. Happiness is hard to find when you are searching for it. If you live your life according to your ideals, goals, and beliefs, happiness will find you.
The best thing to do is to stop going through life trying to figure out the key to happiness because happiness is all around you. Open your eyes, but don’t search for it. You cannot buy happiness, and you cannot go on a mission to find it. The key to a lifetime of happiness is doing what makes you happy with people you love. Because of different perspectives, everyone has a different key. Go use your key of happiness to unlock a world of love, success, and anything else that you have ever dreamed of.
