Key Dates For The Fall Semester At Ole Miss

Is it Fall yet? Fall is said to be one of the best times to be here. With the Grove packed each Saturday, the leaf's changing colors, the smell of everything pumpkin and the air turning cooler. Here are a few key dates you'll wanna know for this coming fall semester at Ole Miss.

1. Move-In Week: August 13-18

Depending on what dorm/floor you live on will have different dates. Check out the housing website for the full list of details. Just prepare for the craziness yet exciting day. Cause after all this will be your home for the next nine months. Oh and you'll end up questioning how you managed to get everything in your tiny dorm. http://studenthousing.olemiss.edu/move-in/

2. Welcome Week: August 22-26

You have two types of freshmen: one that goes to the majority of the welcome week events and the other that avoids it at all cost. Yeah, getting in a ball pit with strangers might be weird but hey its welcome week! This is fun for anyone no matter what grade.

3. First football game of the season: September 10

Get pumped Rebs because football is back! We might just be playing Wofford but who cares it's finally football season. So bring out your Grove best attire and get ready for Friday night tent races and Saturday's spent in Vaught again.

4.Ole Miss vs Alabama football game: September 17

The whole week leading up to this game is called "Bama hate week" by some, and no doubt the game everyone is looking forward to this season (besides the Egg Bowl). After beating the Tide back-to-back the last two years meeting's who is ready to pack Vaught and make this the third year in a row?

5. Panhellenic Sorority Recruitment: September 9-16

It's rush week! Recruitment week is an exciting week full of songs, chants, running in heels to your next house and finding your home. Even if you aren't going through recruitment go to The Grove on bid day. It's fun to see everyone get their bids, the Gamma Chi revel and running to the houses. (P.S. your name tag will become your best friend, Don't lose it)

6. THANKSGIVING BREAK: November 21-25

It's about time we get a break (and thank gosh it's a week). You'll end up spending half of it eating and the other half sleeping. It's amazing.

7. FINALS: December 5-9

The best time of the year is near, (thxs Christmas) and also the worst time of the year is upon us (thxs finals). Study and power through; remember a 6-week winter break is waiting at the end of finals, and your GPA does not define you. Also don't forget the coffee!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
