What do you do when your world falls apart? When life as you know it does a complete U-turn...

Do you turn to God when you have no one else?

When you’ve lost everything in your life and your world flips upside down; how do you keep your faith?

It feels like everything in the universe is out to get you. You don’t have friends, you’re struggling in school, you have family problems, you just can’t catch a break. Do you pray? Do you ask for help from God? We all get caught up in our on little world. We all think that the little things in our life are so important; and to us, they are. But, when our world comes to a complete halt, none of us jump the gun to ask God to help, or pray, or read scriptures. It’s hard. We don’t want to wait around for things to get better...we want them back to normal ASAP. We cry out that the universe is against us. And sometimes, when life is really bad you actually start believing it is.

When you get stuck in a rut and bad things happen one after the other; it is SO easy to get down (and stay down), get bitter, get depressed, and just be done (as i like to say). But, instead of blaming everyone else, wallowing in self-pity, and questioning God for why he is doing all of this to you...just have faith. That is so much easier said than done, too. I recently have felt like my world is constantly crashing, I am stuck in a rut and I can't get out. But instead of turning to God, and having faith that this is all happening for a reason, I just kind of gave up. I let the devil get the best of me. I lost my faith. Casting Crowns has a song “Just Be Held” and it really helps me when I lose my faith and get discouraged. My favorite line is:

Your world’s not falling apart, it’s falling into place.

I’m on the throne, stop holding on

And just be held.

Our world isn’t falling apart. What we have going on -- there is a reason for it. We don’t know what that reason is, and yes -- we want things easy and not difficult. But the reason may be a lesson learned; emerging a stronger person; impacting someone's life with your story of hard times. You never know how God is going to use you; you just have to have faith and trust in him. Because when you lose that... that's when you’re truly alone.

The Bible says in Joshua 1:5:

There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life: as i was with Moses, so I will be with thee: i will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.

The Lord tells us we are never alone for He will always be there for us. We have to believe in Him, have faith in Him, and trust Him. We can’t just call on Him whenever it is convenient. Having faith is hard. It’s not the easiest thing to do. Even Jesus’ disciples had to ask for the Lord’s help to give them better faith.

In Luke 17:5-6, the Bible states:

And the apostles said unto the Lord, Increase our faith.

And the Lord said, If ye had faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye might say unto this sycamine tree, Be thou plucked up by the root, and be thou planted in the sea; and it should obey you.

Our God is a GREAT God. He has our back like no one else; we just have to have His back, too. We can’t give up on Him. We may get in our rut and nothing is going our way; we may even give up on ourselves. I know I have before.

We just can’t get to that point when we give up on God. He’s the one that’s going to take away all our troubles and help us.

In Luke 22:32, the Bible says:

But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converte, strengthen thy brethren.

When you’re feeling down, or when you’ve got the world against you, or when you’ve lost everything.....look to the one thing you still have ---God.

Ask for strength to get through the tough times. Ask for patience until things get better. Ask for wisdom to go about the situation the right way. Ask for faith.

We all sway in faith every once and a while, but we don’t have to lose that, too. When you’ve lost it all -- Remember who’s still on your side.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
