With a new year comes everyone's resolutions for the year to come. Some want to get into shape, eat healthier, and lose weight. Others decide they either want to quit smoking or quit drinking. Along with a few other resolutions that I made, I also decided that I would keep a gratitude journal. Each night before bed I will write what I'm grateful for from that day. This practice has allowed me to discover so many things that I am eternally grateful for and I have learned a lot in the process. Here is a list of things I have learned and benefited from by keeping a gratitude journal.
1. Even bad days are good days
Everyone has a bad day every once and a while. By keeping a gratitude journal it has helped me to focus on things I'm thankful for and has lightened my spirits from what originally looked like a bad day. Going to bed with a smile on my face is always better than falling asleep with a frown.
2. The little things are big things![]()
It's not only important to take time to be grateful for the big things that happen but to also focus on the little things that often go over looked. Even a sunny day or an extra few hours of sleep should not be taken for granted. These small things are blessings that are just as important as the big things you're grateful for.
3. Gratitude should be expressed
Sometimes it is so easy to go through an entire day without taking time to thank the Lord and those around you for the things in your life. Try to take time to say thank you to those that have impacted your life and thank God for all the blessings that He has filled your day with! By saying thank you to others, you may just make their bad day a good one!
So with all this being said, I challenge all of you to take time every day to either write down or think up a few big and small things that you are grateful for. I can guarantee that you will find yourself with a bigger smile and a bigger appreciation for every blessing and person in your life.
