"Just a sip won't hurt"

"Dude, you should try it sometimes, it makes you feel good"

"Give it a shot, the experience is an exhilarating rush"

And why exactly should I? Because you say so?

Give me a good reason why I should plague towards poisoning my body even just for a second? Don't get me wrong, do what as you please in your path towards having fun. But to include me in such action along the lines of chugging away a six pack or taking 5 to 10 shots of the hardest liquor you foolishly burned most of your paycheck on, "just to have a good time"? Nah, get that jack out of my face.

"You should take a hit, it'll calm you down/stimulate your mind/make you see the world from a different perspective"

You never even graduated from standard education and you want to pitch seeing the world differently? Don't kid yourself, friend. If you take the hit of "green" for the sake of medication purposes then good for you. However, it being by that means of a resort, or just for the sake of escaping reality and your problems so that you shamelessly evade taking acceptability for being a mature individual = it's just not my kind of thing. Unroll your paper and try using it as a list how you can advance in life, rather than lighting up, to shut down.

I am no individual greater than the next however, I am not the kind of a fool who claims the life of the scene. I do not require my daily dose of pills to fix me up when life is trying so hard to bring me down, simply because I cannot catch a break or because I didn't work hard enough to get where I need to be. Let's not forget, the drive to incorporate hallucinogens or stimulants in the line of "having a good time." Keep several miles of distance away if you NEED to alter your mind, sight or body function just to enjoy the one life you are gifted to have, incompetence doesn't flow here.

No. I won't take a sip.

No. I won't take a hit.

No. I won't escape reality.

I will claim close as a keeper of the Edge.
The life of Straight Edge. I don't drink, I don't smoke, I don't do drugs. I live a life of a soul that remains in purity, and a mind that rests in intelligent security.

You will not sway my ways because you are not the way that I live.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
