Canada's new Prime Minister has dominated news across Canada and well into American news media. The story of Justin Trudeau, a man who brought on an astounding change to Western politics. His cabinet is, for the first time in history, balanced by the gender of its members. Half are men, the other half women. It's one that has brought on a barrage of questioning, to which the 23rd leader promptly answered, "Because it's 2015."
This blunt and stunning response is a reflection of the times that are overdue to change. Not only are these members equal in gender, but in an attempt to better represent the population of Canada, he has included minorities including First Nations, and a former refugee. Mr. Trudeau has big plans for Canada's future. He wants to reform the actions of the former conservative Prime Minister Stephen Harper.
One of the most "radical" actions Mr. Trudeau plans for the country is to open its doors to even more refugees. He hopes to more than double the number of refugees into the country by the end of 2015. Already, within his first week in office, the name of the citizenship and immigration department was changed to the "Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada".
Trudeau is also seeking an increase of accountability for the sake of First Nations Peoples. The placement of these women and men in historically unprecedented decisions has left a sweeping impression on media and the people. His landslide victory and triumph within the beginning of his term has the world hoping for more monumental people to take on positions of power and follow his footsteps.
