In recent times, we've had a nice helping of Justin Timberlake: actor, funnyman, and all-around entertainer. But it’s been some time--three years, in fact--since we’ve been treated to Justin Timberlake: singer.
After releasing his new single, “Can’t Stop The Feeling,” Timberlake proves that he is the reigning prince of pop music.
The song was recorded and produced to be featured in the upcoming Dreamworks animated flick, “Trolls.” The song's music video features the star-studded cast of the film--Anna Kendrick, James Corden, Gwen Stefani, Icona Pop, and Timberlake himself--dancing and bopping around to the tune. The video is pure, unadulterated fun, serving as an appropriate match to the song which will undeniably be known as the song of the summer.
Some may label "Can't Stop The Feeling" as another bland, conventional pop song not worthy of the listen. While it may be guilty of some cliches of the genre (repetition of lyrics and overproduction to name a few), Timberlake warps these faults to work in his favor. His polished falsetto lifts the already catchy chorus to another level. With a bouncy, fun beat and lyrics like "All those things I shouldn't do / but you dance, dance, dance / ain't nobody leaving soon so keep dancing" makes it effortless to do just that. With touches of hits like Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars' "Uptown Funk" and Pharrell's "Happy," "Can't Stop The Feeling" is a toe-tapping delight.
After the massive success of his 2013 album "The 20/20 Experience," Timberlake left his fans in a drought. With his latest release and a promise of more new music in his future, it's clear that the Prince of Pop has not lost his touch, and does not intend to anytime soon.
