Are you new to Virginia Tech? Do you have questions about where your classes are? Just aSK!
During the first two days of classes, on Monday, Aug. 25 and Tuesday, Aug. 26 the sisters of Sigma Kappa will be outside of McBryde and on the drill field to help welcome freshmen and any new students to Virginia Tech.
Whether you're a freshman or a transfer student, we all know coming to a big campus like Virginia Tech can be a little frightening and intimidating and getting lost is inevitable. To ease these first day butterflies, the sisters of Sigma Kappa sorority will have tables set up by McBryde and the drill field to answer any questions new students may have.
"Just aSK is a really great way for students to get help finding their classes and have all of their first day of school questions answered," says rising junior, Rachel Binzer.
"I remember that, as a freshman, it was really unnerving trying to find even the most iconic buildings on campus," said rising junior, Sam Redfern, "so being able to provide a friendly and approachable environment for new students to be able to ask for directions is really worthwhile."
Just aSK isn't just for new students; it's also the perfect way for Sigma Kappas to reconnect after three months of being apart. "My favorite part about Just aSK is getting to help other students while spending quality time with my sisters," explains Binzer.
"It’s also so much fun to know that on the first two days of classes, I’ll automatically know when and where I can find my sisters on campus to catch up after a long summer of being apart!" says Redfern.
Be on the look out because last year popsicles were handed out at the Just aSK tables and, this year, there will be Gatorades, water, and candy to "help battle the heat of the first few days of classes (and the occasional sweet tooth)."
Sigma Kappa's philanthropy is gerontology (the study of aging) and Alzheimer's disease research. Their philanthropy event, Ultra Violet Nights, will take place later this semester, in October.
