College students home for the summer oftentimes means college students looking for jobs so we can have more than $3 in our bank account. Being that we have yet to earn our degrees, we commonly get stuck doing the "b*tch work" or working in an area that has no true appeal to us. We also end up working multiple jobs in the hopes we might be able to have a little extra money to have fun with our friends.
Let me tell you, it gets to be exhausting. Last minute calls to come into work even though you weren't scheduled, picking up shifts and then finding out your friends planned something fun, getting off early one night only to stay hours late the next night. It's frustrating at times. But, at least we can remind ourselves that there is something bigger and better waiting for us once we finish school.
Working four jobs in one summer definitely gave me the motivation to do well and get done with school as quickly as possible so that I could start looking for one real job. And maybe one little side job every now and then just for the extra money. But, if I have learned anything with these retail and server jobs, it's that I want to go to school, finish school and do well in school so that I don't have to work four or five jobs the rest of my life. I want a life with my family, time to go out on the weekends and time to relax. I don't want to be tired and crabby all the time because I'm working multiple jobs that I kind of like when I could be working one job that I love.
So for the next few years, my friends and I, keep smiling to get those tips and continue with our stressful "b*tch work" jobs. That way we can earn a career that we love, with the degree we worked our butts off for.
