Summer for college students is supposed to be a time for recouping, but most of us go into our "break" with high expectations to get s*** done. There are only three months to do it all, so it is irrational to think that every single thing on our checklist can be completed; however, we still think that it will be an easy task. Until it comes time to actually do them. Here is a list of what the typical college students tries to get done before August comes around, but most of the time fails to do so.
1. Getting Swole
I went into summer vacation with a workout plan, thinking that I'd stick to it and work out six days a week. I do workout every week, but not to the extent that I anticipated to. Realistically, it is quite difficult to work full-time, hangout with friends, visit with family and on top of that, have a strict workout schedule. Now this ties in well with my next expectation I had.
2. Eating Well
I have had a semi-healthy diet this summer, but it is hard to eat clean when you're craving pizza, or when a family member or friend asked you to meet them at Chipotle for dinner.
3. Making time to see your high school friends and family members.
Most college students get attacked with text messages from family members and friends saying, "Oh my goodness, you are home! When can I see your beautiful face?" and they don't realize that they aren't the only people wanting to see you. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love seeing my family and friends who I don't see often, but it is difficult to see everyone you want to see within a short three months.
4. Working and saving all of your money.
Student loans are the devil. We all know that. This is why most college students have summer jobs, but it is very difficult to save your money when Taco Bell is right down the street, you really see a pair of shoes that you can't wait to buy, and you have friends who want to go to Starbucks every other day.
5. Making time for yourself.
I am a social person, but there are times when I just want to be alone and "take a nap-nap with my blanky." When you want to have your morning workout, your friends want to go canoeing at 1 p.m. and you have work at 4 p.m. until 1 a.m., it is almost impossible to have time to yourself unless you don't sleep, of course.
Summer vacation does not seem to be vacation-like when all of these responsibilities come into play. Also, there are only 24 hours in a day, so all of our expectations cannot be met, but just think to myself that when fall comes around and you have a paper due at 8 a.m. the next morning, you'll be saying "Aw, man. I can't wait for summer break."
