Just Do it

"If it's both terrifying and amazing then you should definitely pursue it." -Erada

Just Do it

Many of us experience college differently. Some people go away to college and others commute to school. Some join Greek life and some try out for the university sports team. Either way, we are all doing our own thing and trying to figure out who we truly are and who we want to be. At times we can feel overwhelmed and stressed over the pressure to 4.0 a class or the pressure to move into our own apartments. We may get our hearts broken by the people we never thought would leave us or we may feel disconnected from our friends who are away at different colleges. But in the end, no matter what you are going through, you must pull through because "if it is both terrifying and amazing then you should definitely pursue it."

I found this quote a while back and I realized how meaningful it can be. As young adults we sometimes feel like our world is crashing down and we just can't seem to catch a break. We feel like the universe is against us and we just cannot win. We may feel like there is so much we should be doing but for some reason, someone or something is holding us back from it. New opportunities and chances to change our lives may even arise but for some reason, we are anxious for that change and instead of going full throttle, we play it safe and stick to the life we are used to living.

My advice to you: Live by this quote. Follow your heart even if you are scared because you truly have nothing to lose. If you never leave your comfort zone, how will you ever find greatness? How will you ever become who you truly want to be if you do not take these chances that are put out for you? You and only you, can make yourself happy.

For me, it took awhile to realize that the very things that terrify me are the things that give me strength and ambition. I realized that I didn't need to lie about who I was or keep what I am thinking inside. All I needed to do was just be me. I want to be terrified because that means that I am challenging myself to live the life I know I deserve. I believe that anything you want, you can have as long as you just believe in yourself. So take chances and make life happen. Even if you fall 100 times, get back up and prove to everyone that yes, you are terrified, but something amazing is about to happen.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
