If you’re like me, either work, cash flow or something else important is keeping you from going somewhere warm this spring break. But don’t worry: there’s still ways to have fun in the city! You don't need to take a plane to get away from the stress of being a college student. Fun things are always happening in Grand Rapids, which means your spring break doesn't have to be as boring as you thought it might be!
1. Go on an adventure to Grand Haven
Even though it probably won’t be warm enough to swim just yet, Grand Haven is a great place to go explore, especially at sunset. Take pictures on the pier or simply take in the beauty that all of Lake Michigan has to offer.
2. Spend a day museum-hopping
Grand Rapids is known for it’s art, and what better way to learn about the city’s history than to go to it's many museums! Why not take a break from being a stressed-out college student and go play like a kid at the children’s museum, or ride the carousel at the Grand Rapids Public Museum!
3. Take a trip to the GR downtown market
There are classes and events happening almost every day at the market! Take a stroll and enjoy the fresh air and even fresher food.
4. Watch the Grand Rapids Griffins win a home game
The Griffins take on the Manitoba Moose Friday, March 11, for college night! Enjoy $2 beer and $2 hot dogs and watch our team dominate the ice!
5. Attend a Laughfest event
Laughfest, a festival hosted by Gilda’s Club, has a variety of events that occur throughout the month of March. Laughter is the best medicine, and Laughfest will include many entertainers and acts that will be sure to have you cracking up. Check out the list of events here!
6. Frolic at Frederik Meijer Garden
Around spring break time is when the annual yet temporary butterfly exhibit is open. Break out of your shell and go see the butterflies break out of theirs too!
7. See Fall Out Boy perform at Van Andel Arena
Everyone’s favorite early 2000’s band is back to rock their newest album in one of the coolest concert arenas. Get your tickets quick and Dance, Dance because Sugar We're Going Down.
8. Go to a beer tasting or tour

9. Take in a show at the Grand Rapids Symphony
If a Fall Out Boy concert isn't the place for you, maybe the symphony is! March 11-13, the Grand Rapids symphony celebrates St. Patrick's Day by playing music from "Lord of the Dance" and having Irish step dancers, bagpipe serenades and Celtic vocalists!10. Catch up on your binge-worthy shows
If you’re too busy to watch "Fuller House" when it comes out this weekend, don’t stress! You have all of spring break to watch that and the fourth season of "House of Cards," which comes out March 4. Or, if you’re looking for a challenge, check out the first five seasons of "Game of Thrones" on HBO. Go and try to watch them all before the sixth season comes out this April!
