Okay now first let’s define what a best friend is. The definition of a best friend is a person who you value above other friends in your life, someone you have fun with, someone you trust and someone in whom you confide. Everyone knows that one annoying couple walking around campus, always doing everything together. In this case, yes that is me and I am proud of it. I always hear girls shaming other girls for being with their boyfriend all the time and that is nothing but wrong. If you find that person who is down for you no matter what, roll with it. Live your life how you want to live it and ignore anyone who thinks otherwise. its cliché to say, but you cannot be in love with a person if you aren’t best friends with them at the root of it all. I have been blessed to attend the same University as my best friend and in this case he is my boyfriend too. Some people may think that having a boyfriend in college is a distraction to your school work, but personally it is a blessing. I am getting the highest GPA I have ever had in my life, working 3 nights a week, involved in an acapella group, and writing for the school newspaper and I cannot thank you enough for helping me with every single one of those. If you meet that special someone during your college years, here what you’ll have to look forward to.
You’ll always have a study partner. Hitting the lib can always be a long and enduring four hours of your day, but making it a library day can enhance your motivation to write that dreaded research paper. You’ll always have a workout buddy. Making time for the gym is hard to fit in your schedule, but having someone to run on the treadmill next to you will put a smile on your face. You guys can set goals for each other and share workout tips. You’ll always have a cuddle buddy. Let’s be honest, having someone to Netflix and lay around in between classes is amazing. You’ll always have someone to eat with. Caf food might not always be the best, but stuffing your face with someone else makes it ten times better.
Most importantly you will always have someone to push you. College is a time for growth, commitment and time management and having someone there to guide you along the way is indescribable. You will create so many memories and go on so many spur of the moment adventures that you will never forget. Thank you for those.
So I am not saying being attached at the hip, but if your boyfriend is your best friend then that is okay. By all means, go out and explore all parts of college. Go beyond what you ever thought you could do, but if that means involving that special someone in all of that, then go for it. This generation needs to stop judging everyone’s life and try worrying about themselves. I love you best friend.
