A Journey Through My Artwork

The greatest emotions form creativity

A Journey Through My Artwork

I am caught in the midst of exploring the human condition. My journey of discovery compelled me to dig deeper into specific emotions. I find great detail in the expression of a person’s mental state and I decided to project them in a series of paintings and drawings.

The feeling of true frustration is so intense, I chose to show this through opaque painting styles. The brushstrokes I used were harsh and textured to create a mood. The colors I chose are vivid and extreme to express anger, such as the harsh mood the color red gives off. The stress revealed throughout the veins of a clenched fist in my painting depicts the indubitable yet unjustifiable relief physical grieving can bring. While simply clenching a piece of paper, the emotion can drain from you, like an immense weight lifting off your body. As your muscles grow tense, the stress from your mind is suppressed. For the time being, we postulate all is released. Until we come to the conclusion, our thoughts were distorted.

Stereotypically, biting nails serves as a sign of anxiety. In my drawing, the tension of the finger pressed against the lips serves to demonstrate the overwhelming moment of anxiety and stress one is feeling at that exact moment. The moment where you feel on the edge, waiting to tip over. I used a slightly rigid style in my pencil work to give off a stressed out perception.

Happiness and optimism is the main source of life. My next painting shows jubilance in a smile, clearly exhibiting the beauty in being truly captivated. Yellow is an euphoric color, relating to the sun. This is why I chose to use yellow in my painting. While happiness is not only a spur of laughter; but an essence so confident, the sensation of liveliness is overwhelming.

The human figure has become my canvas on which I draw out the human condition, and hopefully, through my work, expresses the myriad of emotion as experienced through a teenage artist. There is a multitude of ways to express these vast emotions but I chose to in a way I can relate to.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
