JoJo's new hit single leading up to the release of her album in October dropped on July 28 and it is amazing.
She collaborated with Wiz Khalifa on "F**k Apologies" and it has blown up on Twitter. I would say again, but last time she blew up, it was on MySpace. For those of you who don't remember, JoJo is not a new artist. To put it in perspective for you, her first hit single "Too Little Too Late" was released 10 years ago. When I think of JoJo's early music I instantly think of "Leave (Get Out)" and it reminds me of how amazing she has always been as an artist.
A few years later, after the release of two more albums, she went through a huge legal battle with her record label and has only recently been able to start releasing music again. If you missed it and thought her collab with Wiz on "F**k Apologies" was her first step back into the music world- she actually released a heartfelt tringle (three songs) last fall and proceeded to keep the momentum going by announcing her IAMJOJO tour.
I was lucky enough to be at the last North American tour date in New Orleans (ON JOJO'S BIRTHDAY) where she played her earlier hits along with her tringle and I can tell you, she is BACK. Her soulful voice and raw lyrics pair together perfectly and are relatable to so many.
I feel like I have grown up with JoJo. From middle school to mid-twenties, I have always had a connection to her songs and her general "F**k Apologies" attitude (see "Leave", "Too Little Too Late", etc). While "F**k Apologies" is likely to be the newest female empowerment mantra (for me at least), I can't wait to see what her new record in October is going to be like.
