Jill Stein: I'm Not For Her

Sander's endorsement of Hillary Clinton a few days ago effectively ended his campaign and crushed many of his supporters who had so much faith in his political revolution, but for me, it was a day which I was grudgingly expecting to happen.

I had placed a lot of hopes in Bernie when he launched his presidential run. All of the Republican candidates repulsed me and Clinton seemed like a wannabe liberal to me, so of course Sanders appeared almost like a Messiah figure.

However, I doubted how he would strive to achieve some of his most attractive key points, such as big bank breakups and massive Wall Street reform, and after many discussions with both conservatives and progressives alike, I found myself preparing for the possible day that I would have to place my faith in Hillary to defeat the vat of hot gas and idiocy that is Donald Trump; however, the Green Party candidate Jill Stein began to gain prominence while Sanders lost his own, offering many Sanders supporters a second chance to see many of Bernie's political aims pursued in the presidential run.

And after these recent developments and further considerations, I find myself with her, but I don't mean Jill Stein.

I understand why so many Sanders supporters are now drawn to Stein; she advocates for many of the same principles and ideas that Bernie did, and she drives forward a very far left platform. But the more I look at Stein, the more I have my misgivings. After all, Bernie ran on many of Stein's principles and still lost, so what makes Stein any different? Furthermore, the few differences she does have do not place her in a positive or hopeful direction for the presidential running.

One of these is her platform standing. Her topics, like those of Bernie's, address many social and economic ails, but promise radical change for each one that makes it sound like a utopia can still exist . However, when compared to even Hillary's platform goals, both women address similar ails and offer very similar solutions, with either specific or vague descriptions. Like her predecessor, Jill is too vague on major issues that need actual planning and compromise instead of definite standings with uncertain outcomes.

Of course by now you might be thinking "Yeah, but Hillary's a liar". So Jill isn't? Some of her top donors are indeed good sized industrial and financial organizations. So I'm to believe that AON and Google want to see Wall Street shaken down even if it means that they lose out? I sincerely doubt it. Taking their money is no harm in and of itself, but to do so WHILE demanding massive action against the system they partake in does not paint you in good light.

Just as tenuous as her means to achieve her goals is her ability to unite the country. Granted, she served on various town councils throughout Massachusetts, but this political leadership is too small and limited to highlight how well she would do as president of an entire country. America is heterogeneous is nearly every single political, economic and social category to name and effective leadership cannot focus on a few groups while consistently ignoring the others, especially during a tumultuous time like now that we face. Jill's platform does not resemble a one of a compromiser; she has her set views, and for her to turn on them seems very unlikely.

Yet a major factor that influences my decision to reject Stein is the circumstance that now presents itself to the presidential campaign. As much as I loathe Donald Trump, I understand that a presidency with him in charge is very possible, a thought that fuels my loathing even more. Despite his comments about several minority groups, Donald Trump has no doubt gained the support of many fringe voters among African Americans, Hispanics, and now LGBT individuals after the Pulse Nightclub Massacre; and now all eyes are on what happens to former Sanders supporters.

According to the Guardian, a survey of several Bernie supporters showed how diverse their new plans were, and this uncertainty is unsettling for those who can't stand Trump. The arrival of Stein presents the possibility for a crucial divided vote in November. Hillary and Trump appear neck to neck in recent polling, but if Trump's fringe voters are added and Stein's run ends up drawing a significant amount of voters away from Hillary, it might just be enough to give the edge to the Republican nominee.

I'm sure several of you reading this are already or have already labeled me a fraud or a sellout to Hillary, but you can't say I haven't put any effective thinking into this. I have no doubt that Stein is sincere and dedicated to the beliefs she has, but the problem for me lies in the impracticality of their pursuit. I took a risk with Bernie and saw what happened, and now that election day is only 4 months away, I'm not going down Stein road any time soon.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
