In the makeup world, a feud between two makeup artists is not very common. So when two artists do fight, it becomes big news. The most recent fight was between Kat Von D and Jeffree Star. Both are very widely known for their amazing makeup lines, or for their fame outside of makeup. After watching both videos of their sides to the story, and seeing different videos across the web, it’s evident that one of them is telling the truth.
Jeffree has been accused of being racist and just plain terrible to his fans, or just in general, many times before this feud began. Just last night, I saw a video where he was yelling many different racial slurs and harassing a woman of color. Of course, actions like these are absolutely inexcusable, especially since it's been proven he did say those things. He also apparently made a skit where he told a woman to "bleach her skin" because she was "too dark." Now, I'm not sure if that's true or not, however skit or otherwise, it's absolutely terrible and can hardly be forgiven. Also, he told a girl to drink bleach because a girl told him that his shipping was too slow. Those are just some of the controversial things surrounding him.
Now, to discuss the feud. I believe that the entire thing could have been handled differently and probably more personally between the two; however, the way Kat "exposed" him was also very professional and well put together. The following is what Kat posted on Facebook about the matter:
"After years of making excuses for, and rationalizing Jeffree's inappropriate behavior (including, promoting drug use, racism, and bullying) I can no longer hold my tongue after recent events. I know that over the years, many of you were introduced to Jeffree through me, and regardless if you chose to continue to follow him or not, I just would like to disassociate myself from him and his brand from this point on. I plan on posting a video explanation as to why I felt compelled to make such a statement. But for the time being, I simply want to apologize to anybody and everybody who has ever had to deal with any of his negativity. And yes, with a heavy heart, I will be pulling the shade "Jeffree" from my collection. Sending extra love to everyone out there."
At the time she called him out, social media was blowing up. It was huge for something like this to happen, and for a lot of people, we knew it was going to happen sooner or later. Almost everyone, besides Jeffree's loyal fans, took Kat's side immediately. The next day, Kat posted a video explaining her reasoning behind her posts. In the video, she explains that Jeffree "stole" his logo for his cosmetic brand. It was very disappointing to hear about this, since I had been a fan of Jeffree for years.
My final thoughts on this entire issue end with me siding with Kat. I've listened to both sides, and some behavior is just inexcusable. I am upset about this since I do love his cosmetic brand, and want to buy more of his lipsticks and highlighters. However, until he apologizes for his actions, I know I, as well as many others, won't be buying his products.
