It's Okay To Not Be Okay
Maddison Stahmer

Everyone is always so quick to say, "everything will be fine," "you're okay," "it's not that big of a deal." I'm here to tell you that sometimes, those people are wrong. Sometimes it doesn't feel like everything is going to be okay, or that this situation will blow over. Sometimes things will push you further and further into a hole you don't know if you can get out of. But that's okay. It's okay to be down, it's okay to feel like you can't get up. That's how life is sometimes. However, I'm also here to tell you that you can get up, when you're ready.

The best part about hitting rock bottom is you know you can only go up from there. Feeling sad and helpless can be part of life. These are the moments where you find yourself. People find their greatest strengths during their darkest times, yet we always tell people not to show or feel this pain. There have been days I haven't wanted to leave my bed. In fact, there are days I haven't left my bed at all. Yet the next day the sun came up the same as it always does and the lives of those around me continued on and so did mine. We all have different demons, different fears, but most of all we all have different strengths. You have a purpose and your purpose could change the world. Don't be afraid to conquer your fears and challenge your demons.

I know you're feeling down, I know you're not okay. That is okay. As humans we always think someone can save us, someone can fix us, we are always waiting on that something to make everything better...yet we are the only ones who can make anything better. So yes, it's okay to be down. Some days you might feel like your drowning yet somehow you keep getting little gasps of air that keep you alive. You're meant to make it out alive, you're meant to keep swimming until you reach land. You are meant to recover, even if it takes CPR. So don't give up. Don't wait for that special person to decide to help you. First of all, if they wanted to be there, they would. And secondly, only you can save you from yourself.

We all have baggage, we all have fears and we all have battles we feel we will never win. There have been nights I've prayed for God to take away the pain, sadness and loneliness. Yet here I stand, I woke up this morning, I got out of bed, I made it through that hopeless night just as you will too. I'm not saying it's easy, but you must find this strength inside of yourself. You, and you alone are the only one who can change yourself.

Therefore, it's okay to not be okay for a little while. However there is no knight and shining armor who is going to come revive you. You have to revive yourself. You must love yourself and all of your flaws. If you don't, who will? Everyone gets down sometimes and although it would be nice to be saved and for it to go away over night, it won't. It takes strength, it takes passion and the only one who can make life worth it again is you. So pick yourself back up, make yourself feel beautiful because you are, find your self worth and show the world your power. You can make it through.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
