Simplicity Should Not Be Taken For Granted

There is truly nothing better than a cup of warm coffee. Coffee has always been something that has made me feel like I’m home. Wherever I go, I know that if there is coffee, I will be fine. This may seem small and insignificant, but in the vast scheme of things, the simple things in life are some of the greatest.

The small things in life can make people the happiest. I didn’t realize how happy they actually made me until about an hour ago whilst I was doing homework and my friends brought me my favorite fruit because I had been feeling sick. A banana, something so simple made my day so much better than it had been.

Why do the little things make me the happiest? I think the answer to this is that because I know I enjoy certain things, I can appreciate them in a way that others may not appreciate them. I’ll go back to my original example of coffee for a moment. Coffee is something that many people in the world drink, but no one has their coffee in the same way.

Speaking for myself personally, I like my coffee made with almond milk. Others may enjoy it with cream and sugar or with just cream or just sugar. For everyone, it’s different. When I get my coffee made with almond milk, I instantly become happier. A drink catered to my own personal liking, something that’s just for me.

Simple things should not be taken for granted, and I think collectively as a society we need to take a few moments to savor the little things a little bit more. While sitting and contemplating about the things I enjoy the most, many of the things that I enjoy are not super extravagant.

Going to coffee shops and sitting by a window where the sunlight hits you in a way that’s perfectly warm, finishing a really good book, and eating my favorite foods. As these things come to mind, I realize that I often do not appreciate them to the full potential that I could. Even if I just took a few seconds to really savor these moments in life I think it would be beneficial to myself.

Simplicity is often taken for granted, and I wonder why. If everyone just took a few seconds to enjoy the little things that they like I think collectively as a society, people would be much happier, wouldn’t they? Those seconds spent enjoying something that they may not have taken before really add up.

It is completely okay to take these moments in and just reflect on them. I know the next time I drink my coffee made with almond milk, I’ll savor it because it’s something that I genuinely love to have at the start of my day. After reflecting on these moments, I would like to say that I encourage everyone to take a moment to enjoy the simplest things in life because in the end, it will greatly benefit your happiness.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
