The term "basic" is generally defined as: a woman who likes mainstream products, trends and music.
While this general definition does not appear to be negative necessarily, being basic is often identified as an insult. But why is it bad to enjoy: seasonal lattes, the choker trend, and Selena Gomez's music? It's not. Being basic doesn't mean that you are a boring or materialistic person. The idea of being basic is negative a stereotype that makes fun of women, much like the stereotype that all blondes are dumb. Being basic is about following current trends in fashion, media and music. It is about relevancy. I am basic and I love it.
