When I found out that "The Powerpuff Girls" were coming back, I was beyond ecstatic! "The Powerpuff Girls" meant the world to me. I remember watching "The Powerpuff Girls" when I was a little girl especially those Friday nights where soon after it became my bedtime but it was difficult to sleep. I also remember sighing with relief when the day “was [finally] saved thanks to The Powerpuff Girls.” I still could never forget the chill that went down my spine when I saw Him (I swore he was the Devil), I was overly annoyed with Princess Morbucks’ greediness, and I genuinely enjoyed Mojo Jojo’s “clever” plans. Every book fair at school meant spending everything my mom gave me on Powerpuff Girl merchandise. The word obsession is maybe a bit too much to describe my fanaticism... Who am I kidding? I was definitely obsessed. Powerpuff Girls could never disappoint in my eyes.
"The Powerpuff Girls" made me so happy back then because it made me feel that any problem could be solved if I just thought about it and believed in myself. I want to believe in such a world again; I want the day to be saved over and over and over again but not by Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup, like when I was little, but now by me. I want to believe in the naivety that things will always be alright. I don’t want to face the realizations that this world is so disturbing, tainted, and complicated and that things only work out when the ones in power want it to. I want to forget that The Powerpuff Girls is just a show and forget that things are not as simple as they made it seem to be when I was a kid. I want to indulge and immerse myself in that bottomless and fake happiness that makes me forget about corruption.
Bringing back "The Powerpuff Girls" to me is bringing back a sense of peace that I want to regain. This little blast from the past is much more than just a half-an-hour kids show that made me so cheerful and confident; this is a small sense of hopefulness in an ever disruptive and arduous world. Granted I cringed when I heard the new superhero’s voices, especially Buttercups’, I am still excited to see what the girls are up to now. Maybe the show will surprise us with topics that are relevant to the now adult group that used to watch the show. Mojo Jojo could threaten to speed up Climate Change and maybe Donald Trump could do a cameo while Princess Morbucks endorses him. I can’t wait to see The Rowdyruff Boys and new villains as well. I can only ask myself until then: How will the girls solve these new problems? Can they really do it all like I remember? Everything is up in the air but one thing is very clear to me: "The Powerpuff Girls" coming back will be epic no matter what and it will bring back so much more joy watching it on T.V. again.
"The Powerpuff Girls" comes back Monday, April 4th at 6pm eastern time, on Cartoon Network.
