One thing that I will say about Christmas time that I have always had a love-hate relationship with it for the sole fact that for the past couple of years, I have been very much single. You see all of your coupley friends going out buying gifts for each other, coming to you on what suggestions you have for them as to what their significant other would want, a New Year's kiss, the list goes on and on.
But honestly, it isn't as bad as the rom-com films like to make it out to be. Would I love for a guy to buy me a gift? Absolutely. Would I love to have someone to introduce to my family? You bet.
However, I am going to go buy myself those fuzzy socks from Target because Merry Christmas to me. What about the oh so coveted New Year's Kiss?
Who knows, maybe you'll find that perfect stranger at midnight, maybe you'll just get to take a sip of your drink of choice, or maybe you'll be curled up in bed watching a countdown.
Whatever it may be, do not freak out about single during this season. It is perfectly okay to be the trademark single friend in whatever social circle you may be in, you get to be the most entertaining while the couples watch you interact with potential romantic prospects during the holiday season.
BUT WHATEVER YOU DO, AVOID RESORTING TO TINDER OR BUMBLE DURING THE HOLIDAY SEASON.
In the moment the attention may be nice, but you certainly do not need to rely on the apps to create some romance during the holiday season. Everyone on there is either looking for something fun or someone to take as a date to one holiday party so their family will stop asking them if they have a girlfriend.
Do you think Brian from your accounting class who lives in town is cute? Hit him up over break and go for drinks. Or how about your girlfriends in relationships setting you up with their boyfriend's cute friends? Go for it. Let the communication stem from organic opportunities. Who knows you might gain some good friends or maybe meet someone special over the holidays.
What I'm getting at is, be alone and free during the holidays. You don't need someone to cuddle up with every single night when its cold out. You don't need someone to go out and buy you gifts in order to validate you. You get to validate you during this time of year. Go out, make memories, post one too many pictures, and make sure that you are the happiest you can be this time of year.
You may realize that your big heart could be shown in other ways. With so much love to give, give it to the people who deserve it the most. Go spend time with family, work in a soup kitchen, and give back. Don't put a large emphasis on what is such a minor thing during this time in your life. The one will come soon enough and when he does, you'll have someone worth giving all of the Christmas presents to in the future.
