Do you always plan out your trips or vacations to a tee, leaving spontaneity only when choosing restaurants for meals? Do you stick with everything you planned? Or does the unexpected bumps in the road occur? Raining weather? Expenses? What if you didn't plan all of it? What if you just choose the destination and planned your transporation and housing? Then, when you get to your destination, you plan out what you are doing: which place to visit, activity to do, etc. After a few days in Chicago and my Europe vacation, I am definitely not fully planning your trips.
For the last two days, I traveled with Chicago with two of my friends to stay with my aunt in a a suburb. We originally planned on taking a trip into the downtown scene. However, we decided to hang out in the suburbs--exploring the area and shops. It turned out to be a fun trip without the stress of planning.
Even when I was across the pond this past summer, visiting England, Ireland, and France, my friends and I didn't plan our days until we arrived at our destination. We choose some places we all wanted to visit in those countries: Buckingham Palace, BBC Studies, Piccadilly Circus, the Eiffel Tower, Palace of Versailles, King Cross Station, etc. While we had those places in mind to visit, we didn't know which day we would visit them. By scheduling day trips, everyday of our trips, we could explore the cities on our own, embrace the culture, meet people, and enjoy our vacation. It took over the stress of planning. It didn't feel like school when every hour is planned out.
Next time you decide to take a trip, don't plan it. Plan just to get there. That's all. You trip will come together when you get to your destination.
