Change is extremely necessary in the world we live in today. Things are falling to pieces. People are starving, children are dying and even being murdered. People are so quick to turn a blind eye to our dying world. Yes, OUR dying world. We don’t all live in the same kind of community, nor do we all share a common culture or belief, but we do all live on the same planet. I fear that all of us tend to forget that fact. When one country hurts we should all feel that pain. When one family is mourning the death of a lost child, we should all be able to sympathize and even possibly empathize.
Earth is in desperate need of change and I’m tired of people saying they’re going to make a change and nothing happening. It’s time that someone actually did something. It all starts with a change in perspective. It’s time we all stop looking at our respective differences. Focusing on obvious differences not only gets us nowhere, but it’s the main cause of wars and violence. If there’s one thing we all, if not most, desire is world peace. We’re sick of world hunger and war and chaos.
What would happen if we ALL put aside our differences and asked, “How can we come together as the world to bring about peace?” What if we stopped thinking about how world peace will never happen and we simply worked towards the idea that it can and will. The world is whatever we make it, so it’s up to us to make it beautiful.
Make it personal...maybe you lost someone who was fighting in a war, maybe your heart breaks whenever you see a homeless person, or maybe you feel the pain of families whenever there’s a shooting. Even if you’re not one of these I’m sure you have some personal ties to the pains of the world. You might not be one of those people who goes to a different country on a missions trip and that’s okay. Do something in your community, donate to a charity. There are enough options that every individual can make a difference. A change in perspective will lead to a change in heart and character. That will change the way you interact with people, causing people to change, and a ripple effect will occur to create a better world. It all starts with the question of what will your perspective be?
Everyone is entitled to their different views and perspectives and when it comes down to it we, for a fact, will not all agree all the time and sometimes we’ll have to come to a place where we agree to disagree. In the end, though, most of us want the same thing: to live in a happy and peaceful world. Granted, world peace is a huge thing and it’s not something that can be accomplished easily, but it starts with self-peace, then moves to family peace, soon to community peace, and so on and so forth. Every individual has the ability to make a change, but only some individuals think that they can make a change, and even fewer actually do.
