See the girl, watch her run. Watch her play.
Watch her dance. Watch her live, watch her exist.
Watch her be and think.
She’ll later grow, and mature, and affect those in her own microcosm; maybe she’ll extend beyond her own little world and outreach to those beyond her horizons.
I take a lot of pride in being a female. And as a woman, I feel a connection with the other female members of this global community. There are certain sentiments, and certain struggles that only a woman faces.
And through that agony and various levels of pain, we connect to each other.
So now when it has come to light that the Islamic State kidnaps Yazidi women and girls, I feel hurt.
Being torn away from my family and being forced to a foreign environment governed by people who want to hurt me is something I would never even wish upon my worst enemy.
Not only are these Yazidi women kidnapped, but their captors call them “sabaya.”
Sabaya. Slave.
They are being bought and sold for sex; they are being treated as objects, not as human beings. Their ISIS captors encourage and justify their horrid act, claiming that the rape they commit against these women is “ibadah,” worship.
These Islamic State fighters claim that the sexual assault brings them closer to God.
The abuse of another human being brings one closer to God?
What type of God is this?
Where is this God for these suffering women?
In my opinion, religion provides a set of moral guidelines for a good and just life. To see individuals use religion as a reason to inflict suffering upon others appalls me. Throughout history, organized religion has been used as a means to control people. It has been used as an excuse for bloodshed. It has been an excuse for territorial disputes. And now it is used an excuse to own another human being.
But what sickens me more is that the global community permits these atrocities to happen. I suppose it is safe to say that most political decisions, especially those governing global affairs, are all economic decisions. If there is no interest to be found in any sort of distributed humanitarian aid, then humanitarian aid will not be distributed. Look at the Rwandan Genocide in the 1990s. Although President Clinton was fully aware of the carnage occurring in torn Rwanda, did Rwanda receive any help from America the Great?
Eventually there will come a point where there aren’t enough people to exploit. Therefore, there wouldn’t be enough resources to be made. There won’t be enough people to make those hand grenades or weapons of war. And at that point, because there would be no benefit to gain, this human exploitation will stop. See, human beings possess the full capacity to determine how soon they want this all to stop. But none of it will stop because of the economic interest to be gained.
Where is the voice of justice in the midst of all this dark chaos in the world?
