Short Answer: Yes.

Is The Bail System Broken In the United States?

Bail.

It’s something you’ll need to have handy after a healthy mix of booze and Ambien helps you sleep off a good night…in the pokey or in a hospital.

Christ, Mrs. Warner. Did you not also realize you were beating the literal shit outta somebody with a loaded gun? Let’s be clear, the only time it is perfectly acceptable to drink and mix Ambien is if you’re a caller to a radio show on SiriusXM!

Look, in most situations like this, you have the option to give a certain bail amount, generally set by the judge as a promise that you will show up to court on a certain date. Or, alternatively, you do not ending up paying the bail, and you stay in jail until your court appearance date. Both end up yielding horrible results, as what S & H Bail Bonds tells us.

There are a couple obvious results of not posting bail:

1. Not being able to post bail means most people have jobs that they must report to likely end up getting fired.

2. These people are heads of families, some having children that they must care and tend to, meaning bail is paramount.

However, posting bail means that somebody who makes minimum wage behind the counter at fast food restaurants often forgoes an entire paycheck just to return to their normal lives.

So, is the bail system in America broken? Or is this an example of punishing those who are poor? I mean, let’s face it, nobody has thousands of dollars to spare for freedom. We all are not Robert Durst, treating the American jails like a game in the Grand Theft Auto series when you get busted!

In one short response, yes.

Why?

A few reasons:

1. The decision to even grant bail is often subjective. If the courts determine you to be a flight risk or a threat to others or self, then they can give the obvious decision to NOT grant you bail.

2. Overcrowding in jails is becoming a rapidly growing issue. People are in jail just for not being able to afford to pay off a ticket for driving on a suspended license. The logic behind storing somebody who is just poor, and is deemed not a threat to society along with the Ohio State campus shooter is enough to blow one’s mind out.

3. Bail Bondspeople.

Yes, Bail Bonds.

The fourth sleaziest industry behind payday loans, debt collection and adult entertainment.

Low-income people generally will use bail bondsmen because they simply cannot afford to pay the full bail amount up front. Even then, this is not even a wise-income thing to do. What happens with bail bondsmen is that they will pay off your entire bail balance PROVIDED you pay them 10%-15% of said bail balance AND you show up for your court appearance.

What happens if you’re found innocent?

Do you get that 10-15% back?

No.

What happens if you jump bail?

This:

"Jail can do for your actual life what being in a marching band can do for your social life. Even if you're just in for a little while, it can destroy you." - John Oliver

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
