Is Social Media Actually Ruining Our Social Lives?
Forbes

There is no doubt that the world today revolves around social media, whether it's Twitter, Instagram, Facebook or Snapchat. Not a day goes by without hearing, “Did you see that tweet?” or, “Have you seen my Snapchat story?” While I cannot deny that I love social media, some days I wish it had never become a thing. I wish iPhones had never been created, and I wish that we could all hang out like they do in old movies. Seeing movies like "Grease" makes me want to put down my phone and ACTUALLY hang out with my friends without checking my phone 24/7, or go to a dance and ACTUALLY dance like a normal human being (a.k.a. not grinding). In no way am I saying I hate social media or that we should completely get rid of it, but some days I wish I did not feel like I needed it.

I can honestly say not a day has gone by since I first got my iPhone that I have not used social media… unless my phone was broken. Looking at my phone is a way of avoiding awkward moments, confrontation and to pass the time when my friends and I have nothing to do. Especially as a college freshman, it is so hard to make friends when everyone is glued to their phones. I am not going to lie, I do this sometimes, but other times it bugs me. You want to say "hi" to someone or smile at them, but they do not even know you exist because their eyes are glued to their phone. Like, "Hello, I'm here, you do not need to keep refreshing Twitter!"

When walking across campus, the view mostly consists of people walking to class looking at their phones, because they do not want to make eye contact with anyone else. How do you expect to ever talk to that cute guy or girl if you never look up and actually say something? Hint, hint: it won't happen.

Hanging out with your friends while playing with your phone the whole time is not hanging out with your friends. It is hanging out with your phone. I know we are all guilty of over-using social media (myself included), but I challenge you all to hang out with your group of friends and not look at your phone once. See what happens -- be creative!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
