What I'd Rather Be Doing Instead Of Talking About Politics

If I'm being honest...

What I'd Rather Be Doing Instead Of Talking About Politics

Am I the only one tired of getting on Facebook and seeing countless posts about the election - whether good, bad, or simply others telling everyone to calm down??? There are lots of other things I'd rather be doing than spending time scrolling through social media posts with the names "Trump", "Clinton", and the sorts embedded in the long winded paragraphs.

If I'm being honest...

I'd rather watch Netflix.

Maybe I'll start "Stranger Things", I've heard great reviews and am curious about who this "Eleven" character is. Or maybe I'll watch a documentary about giraffes. Or maybe I'll binge watch "America's Next Top Model" while eating a bowl of ice cream. Yeah, I'd rather do that.

I'd rather call my mom.

I miss that lady's voice of wisdom and advice. All I want is a phone call that has no time limit in which we can talk about everything under the moon, from the unusually warm weather to our Christmas wish lists to what we had for breakfast.

I'd rather work out.

Hmmmm...I haven't done that in awhile. Maybe I'll go on a run in the sunshine and get lost on side streets that lead to neighborhood parks where there are dogs! Or maybe I'll go to the gym and pretend to know what I'm doing when I grab the hand weights from the shelf. I have new tennis shoes that need to be used. I'd rather put those slick Nikes to good use.

I'd rather go on a drive.

I don't know where to, but I know that I just want to drive on open roads with a good Spotify playlist on full blast. If it's warm enough the windows could be rolled down and my hand can be hanging off the side like you see in the movies. Maybe I'll just hop on the interstate and drive the 10 hours home. That could be fun.

I'd rather spend time with Jesus.

I'd like to open up His word and let His truth saturate me deep where doubts lie and insecurities take root. I want to journal for as long as I want! Maybe I'll journal my prayers or list the little things I'm thankful for or just doodle. Yeah, that sounds so much better than talking about politics.

I'd rather FaceTime my best friends.

We haven't done that all semester, and it sure would be nice to see their faces!

I'd rather learn to master "Juju On That Beat".

I have watched countless youtube videos, but I still can't seem to get the hang of it. Maybe I'll dedicate a couple of hours to dancing ridiculously in my room so that I can bust out the moves at parties and blow everyone away with my "juju".

Wow, there are so many things I'd rather be doing than listening, reading, or discussing what happened on Tuesday. Maybe I'll do all of these!! Or maybe I'll delete my Facebook app and refuse to get back on until all of this political talk dies down. Maybe I'll use my time that I would be spending reading everyone's opinions about the election to start accomplishing this list. Maybe I'll start with the Netflix idea...that's pretty appealing.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
