Did you know you might be using your Instagram incorrectly? If your answer is: "There is no singular way to Instagram," we are on the same page. In preparing for this article, I have been observing my Instagram "data" for about two months to try to confirm and deny several unspoken Instagram rules and myths.
1. To double post or not to double post?
The fear of double posting is very irrational. The rationalizations that often go with this phobia are that people will hate you or think you're annoying for double posting. I found that it really does not matter much. My like ratio may differ between photos but I believe it is more influenced by photo quality rather than the concept of double posting. PLUS it is better to have fun and have too much to post than nothing at all.
2. How many selfies are too many?
Despite the number of girlfriends you have witnessed complaining about another person's selfie game on Instagram, the truth is: PEOPLE LOVE SELFIES. Why? Because it is YOUR Instagram they are following. If they do not want to see pictures of you, they will press unfollow just like any other logical person. P.S. pictures of yourself (with your face visible) definitely get more likes, just think about it.
3. Your followers to like ratio matters.
NEWS FLASH: social media is sometimes an alternate version of reality. It took me years to get the memo about instagram-ers buying likes and followers. Next time you worry about this, kindly remind yourself that social media can be superficial and cause unnecessary concerns.
4. Unfollowing your unfollowers
A lot of people are big fans of the app that notifies you when someone unfollows you. HONESTLY, I respect the choice to follow and unfollow. I have not downloaded the app and never plan to but I see the appeal. Why keep up with someone's life if your own life is irrelevant to said person? I would not mind if the Instagram app developed a feature to notify users of unfollowers because it would help with acknowledging the mutual interest of pressing unfollow.
5. The Golden Rule of Instagram
You may think this contradicts with number three but I am making two different points. Your ratio doesn't matter but it is definitely annoying when your followers only scroll past your posts. Let me tell you why. It's irksome because the entire purpose of Instagram is to like photos! If you sign up for an Instagram you should have the capability to like the photos of the people you follow.
6. Do it for the gram!
How to have strong Instagram game: do what you want, whenever you want, so that you can post whatever you like. If you simply live a life you are proud of, every moment will be "gram-worthy."
