Welcome To My Insomnia Fueled Mind

A Brief Introduction

Hello everyone, welcome to my Odyssey article. I`ve never operated a blog-esque thing before, so I’m not really sure what to write about for my first piece. So, I thought I would take the easy way, and start with a generic introduction of who I am, and what I may be thinking of writing about to contribute to this site as I progress on.I`m not sure where to begin, so I will start out with the basics and see where it goes. Let’s begin shall we?

Hi, I`m Yamir; I also go by Alec (like Alec Baldwin) for anyone who has a hard time with my first name. I am a 21-year-old fourth-year college student from the small state of Delaware. This is my first blog-like article I have written, so I’m really not sure where to go after that. I don’t want to be too generic, as to not bore whoever may be reading this. It may not help that I am typing this at almost one in the morning when I should be in bed-- typical student's life, right?

Honestly, this is most likely what will be most of the articles that I will write for Odyssey, as I have a habit of staying up late into the night doing pretty much nothing. Hence the reason for the title and my tagline, “Insomnia Fueled Mind”, which is something I came up with while signing up to join Odyssey, shortly before writing this. I will most likely be writing about everyday nonsense, life experiences I have had the pleasure, and/or displeasure, of having, or anything my insomnia fueled mind can come up with while being awake at four am, mindlessly scrolling through Facebook and watching any YouTube video that interests me, all while having five hours left until my first class of the week. It is always fun to me what my brain can come up with from time to time, and it is something that I think helps keep my life interesting: the unpredictability of our minds.

Honestly, there are times that I don’t even know what I am doing or saying, especially after one in the morning. Sometimes, my mouth and/or hands keep moving as my mind goes dead. Kind of like right now, it is one am into a Thursday. I hope this has been as fun for you to read as it was for me to type, and I hope you enjoy whatever content I can come up with in the future.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
