We have all heard of the phenomenon of March Madness, but this summer brings a new madness into our lives. It's one we hate to love and love to hate: "The Bachelorette."
Every Monday night, millions of women (and their boyfriends, dads, brothers, etc.) gather around the TV with popcorn, blankets, and a thirst for drama and romance. "The Bachelorette" continually satisfies all of our reality TV needs, in this slightly classier, but oh so dramatic, dating contest. And boy does this season seem like a good one.
After an eventful season premiere, almost all of the U.S. is beyond excited to see Kaitlyn beat out Britt to be the bachelorette and hopefully find her future fiancé. The energetic hipster Kaitlyn lost her chance at love on the last season of "The Bachelor." But, because she charmed audiences nationwide with her hilarious, albeit sometimes inappropriate, sense of humor, she was offered to star in the next season of "The Bachelorette." But there was a twist.
Britt, also a former "The Bachelor" contestant, was also offered the chance to star in "The Bachelorette." One may ask how this is possible. Well, this is where the drama comes in, and yes, on the very first night.
Kaitlyn and Britt both appeared on the first episode of "The Bachelorette" just to see who the male contestants would vote to have as their bachelorette. The guys may have been in awe over Britt's beauty, but most of them, having seen clips from last season, saw through her artificial façade. Not only did Britt manage to anger every other contestant on the show by her need for attention and lack of bathing, but she also tried to make the whole "The Bachelor" season a love story about her and Chris, even after he chose another woman as his wife.
While the competition seemed neck-and-neck for quite a while, and one drunk weirdo was sent home, almost all of the U.S. breathed a sigh of relief when Chris Harrison announced that Kaitlyn would indeed be the next bachelorette. Yay!
But don't feel too bad for Britt. Song writer Brady vowed his love for Britt and left the show mid-rose ceremony, and there are reports that he and Britt are dating now. What a match made in "The Bachelor" heaven.
This season comes with promising drama, as past "The Bachelorette" contestant (Andi's season) Nick, makes a reappearance. Other promising contestants include: Ben H., the super cute software salesman that calls marriage a sacrifice (ouch), Ben Z., who lost his mom years ago, and you can bet the show will milk that for all the tears it's worth, Chris, the slightly frightening, creepy dentist who showed up in an oversized cupcake, Ian, the 28-year-old, ex-professional track star who is crazy for Kaitlyn (my personal fav), Jared, the less cute, Ashton Kutcher look-alike, and Shawn B., the first impression rose stealer which makes him a front-runner already.
With lots of great guys, an incredible bachelorette, and a bunch of cameras around, obviously drama will ensue. The preview for the upcoming season shows us that fun and flirty Kaitlyn will take the flirting a little too far. It also gives us insight to the men's anger over Kaitlyn's lips being a little too available, and she sheds many tears over having slept with one of the contestants too early. Of course, everyone finds out. Kaitlyn insists that a relationship needs intimacy to see if it could actually work, but the men are all upset. Wouldn't you be upset if the person you liked had publicly slept with someone else? Awkward.
All we know is that we are incredibly excited to see what happens on yet another season of "The Bachelorette." We can't wait to see the men that get along with no one and the men that cry after being sent home before barely speaking one word to Kaitlyn. The U.S. will be patiently awaiting all of the tears, fights, kisses, magical dates and rose ceremonies, every Monday night.
