Looking in from the outside you see a large group of crazed fans decked out in blue ready to defend any ignorant remark that a Louisville fan throws our way, but in reality the Big Blue Nation is so much more than that. It is the type of family that you do not hesitate waking up at 6 a.m. to support or traveling halfway across the country to cheer on in the final four.
Just like any other family, when tragedy strikes you can count on the Big Blue Nation to be there. This past Thursday at practice, Alex Poythress tore his ACL and received heartbreaking news that he will be out for the remainder of the season. It took no time for the Big Blue Nation to step up and show Alex all that he means to us.
Aside from the influx of support on social media, during Saturday’s game vs. North Carolina, Kentucky Wildcat fans and players rallied behind Poythress and showed support with shirts that had “Roar for 22” written across the front. Not only did all of the UK players wear them during warm-ups, but they were even distributed to fans in the eRUPPtion zone to wear throughout the game.
And if all of that is not enough to make you envious of the family we have, nothing portrays the Big Blue Nation quite like 24,000 loyal fans singing the National Anthem aloud together in Rupp Arena.
The Big Blue Nation is unlike any other fan base in the world, and it is yet another reason why my school is better than yours. #BBN
