There are so many moments. All the good and bad times make for a thing we call life. The bad can bring you down and the good lifts you up, but what about the moments that make it all worth it? The moments you feel most alive. The moments you feel are never going to end. These I like to call infinite moments.
Everyone's infinite moments can be different. You could have had several and will have much more to come. These are the moments where everything seems to stand still and your mind is so focused nothing else seems to matter.
The book "Perks of Being a Wallflower" has a quote, "And in that moment I swear we were infinite." This quote is where the idea of an infinite moment inspired me. I have become intrigued with finding my moments and reliving them inside my head. This book alone has become an infinite moment in itself. Finding a book that comes alive and speaks to you, can create such intimacy. While you're reading everything just comes alive. You feel as if you are in their world, in their minds, and can talk to each one. The silence in the room is filled with voices and scenes that jump off the pages creating a world all to yourself.
Creating silence while you discover the world told by a story is something to always appreciate, but sometimes blaring your favorite song or experiencing the artist you have always loved play live can spark something inside you. As you hear that certain song and you feel butterflies in your chest, you close your eyes and it feels as if they are only singing to you. Emotions of pure bliss take over while holding back happy tears is not really an option. This is a moment you remember without the pictures or videos, just you and your mind to relive over and over again.
Music has always been a big part of my life. From expressing myself through dance, playing in my high school band, or enjoying simple moments with the sweet sounds whispering in the background. Picture a summer day driving through the mountains with the windows down, loved ones by your side, and your favorite music playing softly from the speakers. For me, this is the best therapy you can find. Being able to fully allow your mind to relax while feeling the serenity of the wind blowing, you look over at the person sitting next to you singing along with you is a moment that cannot be replaced. Moments like this are simple, but sometimes the littlest moments can make you feel most infinite.
I don't think I could find a better example of this other than going back to the time you were dancing like a fool with your friends. Whether this is at your winter formal, the spot your friends can always be found on a Tuesday night, or just around your living room. Dance like nobody's watching is an understatement, this is a moment where you are completely yourself. Laughter fills the room, and your cheeks hurt from how hard you are smiling. You forget about the pimple on your chin or how you cannot afford the latest fashion trend. In this moment you feel nothing but beautiful.
Being surrounded by loved ones is always a moment to remember. Fourth of July, New Years, and other celebrations all have something in common, that is fireworks. Remember the times sitting cozied up with loved ones listening to the crackling of the fire. The loud roars and the spectacular light show gives you a sense of how big our world truly is.
Sometimes being alone can feel just as infinite as those moments shared with the people you love most. Exercising an activity that you love is when these moments shine. The things that make your eyes light up and when light pours out of you when you talk about it, the things you do only for yourself. This could be art, travel, collections, sports, anything that makes you who you are. These are the moments you share only with yourself and the action. The times you lock yourself in a room for hours appreciating your opportunity to love and appreciate something so much. This moment is most intimate because it is the time when you feel most safe and warm without the help from anyone but yourself.
These moments can be created anywhere and anytime. There are memories that you think back to your whole life, like senior prom, or something so common it happens every day. I hope you take those moments, whatever they are, and hang onto them for as long you can. Put aside anything else you have going on or anything you are worrying about and just live. Be happy, and be okay with being happy. Because in these moments I swear we are infinite.
