My indie rock playlist will give you the summer feel-goods. It's my pickup from the Monday workday blues, it's my pump-up workout jam for the occasional (I mean really occasional) evening jog, it's the cure to my Thursday morning hangover (don't judge me), my barbecue background noise, and the ultimate shower sing-along.
D-D-Dance by The Royal Concept (2013)
If my playlist were an album, this would be the first track. It has that familiar festival sound, but still obscure enough to make you feel hipster when listening to it. And if this doesn't have you d-d-dancing and beat your summer blues, I don't know what will.
Young Fathers by Typhoon (2014)
The beginning of the song breaks through your world of technological perfection, skipping, and bringing you back to the good old days in elementary school when your mix tape had a scratch but you couldn't toss your favorite disk. The folksy audio in the lead-singer's voice combined with the vocal chorus in the end, makes for a very human sound.
I Wanna Get Better by Bleachers (2014)
This song makes you want to love your life, change it, make it better, and then love your life even more than you did. I can't help but feel happy when listening to this jam.
Over & Over by Smallpools (2013)
My ultimate go to when reminding myself to live in the moment.
Why'd you only call me when you're high? by Arctic Monkeys (2013)
This groovy rock will make it impossible to hate your ex this summer. How can you hate someone who's stoned? They're not evil, they're just confused and can't stop calling you.
Make You Better by The Decemberists (2015)
I threw in one for you bummers who have the summertime blues. Also because these guys rock live. Check out some of their older stuff and dig their harmonica.
Breaking Up My Bones by Vinyl Theatre (2014)
This is my driving song and one of my favorite Alt Nation gems.
Put A Light On by The Generationals (2013)
My favorite part about the Generationals is you can't understand anything they're saying but it's so funky and upbeat you cant help but wiggle a little.
Back To The Shack by Weezer (2014)
And what is a jam playlist without a Weezer song? I just want to start a band and jam out in the garage. Man, I really did high school wrong.
