We're in the thick of it at the University of Arkansas now. Discombobulated from the relentless onslaught of homework and reading; reading...and...homework... If you're a music lover, appreciate animals whatsoever, and don't hate babies, then you should check out my "January 2018 Indie Rock playlist #2". I promise that I'll continue to add more music as the week pushes forward, but for now here's some insight as to what you'll listen to on the set.
1. argonaut&wasp- "Radio Sound"
This song ROCKS. I mean, really, REALLY rocks. This Brooklyn trio is relatively new to the game, but their eclectic sound isn't at all. They're an electro-pop-rock band that seamlessly fuses house, pop, and indie synth rock to create a very unique voice. I highly recommend checking them out if you're a big fan of being happy and listening to good music.
2. Tropic Harbour- "can't pretend"
Listening to Tropic Harbour is described on their facebook page as "a utopian space constructed by Mark Berg for a peace of mind." (Here's Tropic Harbour's Facebook page if you want to tickle your fancy https://www.facebook.com/pg/TropicHarbour/about/?r... ) Tropic Harbour may have a name reminiscent of being close to the equator, but they're actually from one of the least tropical places on Earth (Edmonton, Canada), however this doesn't stop from totally immersing you in a tropical environment with their music. Ten out of ten would recommend listening to Tropic harbour if you get the chance.
3. pizzagirl - "Favourite song"
Pizzagirl is a formidably interesting, and challenging artist to describe. He's from Liverpool, and his website is absolutely stunning. If you're a 90's baby and seek nostalgia, or want to gaze into the past I suggest you go check out his website here: http://www.mypizzagirl.com/about/ Pizzagirl describes himself as a 14-year-old CEO of Bitcoin that weighs in at 453 pounds, and enjoys carbohydrates, flips, and dislikes bullies and law enforcement. He claims to speak more than 34 languages, including c++, so as you can tell he's a very talented human with a knowledgeable understanding of music.
4. Ezra Furman - "Suck the blood from my wound"
Ezra Furman is a band from Evanston, Illinois that, quite frankly, rocks. They have a beautiful combination of a little bit of punk edginess, with a tone that is true to rock and roll today. If you've never heard of Ezra Furman, you should definitely check out this song. It's hard to not enjoy this song if you're a resilient person, the message resonates deeply with anyone who feels like they have tasks to overcome ahead of them.
5. Work Drugs - "MIAMI NIGHTS"
Work Drugs is a little bit of a divergence away from the more Rock and roll influenced artists on this playlist, but don't let that scare you away. They slay "MIAMI NIGHTS" with a perfect culmination of synth, saxophone, airy vocals and a kick that makes you want to dance to this song. Work Drugs describes their style perfectly as "Smooth-fi and sedative wave" and their sound shows it. Influences like Madonna, Prince, Kaskade, and Springsteen truly create a beautiful and striking balance to their work. This group is from Philadelphia and is headed by band-members Tom Crystal, Ben Louisiana, Mr. Kansa City, and Jonas O.
6. Dinovski featuring Caitlyn Scarlett - "Island of Sin"
There's not a lot of available information about Dinovski, but here's what we know: He makes good music, and "Island of Sin" is an instant repost. This song is mesmerizing, especially with Ms. Scarlett's beautiful voice to really tie it all together and give this song the character it begged for.
7. Darwin - "Lost"
Darwin's song "Lost" vibrantly nails emotions a lot of people feel about significant others. I won't go into immense detail about the message of the song as it's pretty subjective depending on the listener, but it's beautifully produced to have a progressive, deep, indie dance vibe to it. Darwin is from upstate New York according to their biography, and the evolution of their sound reasons enough for me to understand why they would name themselves after an anthropologist.
8. Wax Mistress - "A reflection"
Psychedelic, Progressive, Punk, Electronic; all of these describe their sound eloquently, yet not sufficiently enough to single them out in these genres alone. They're vocals may be distant, but their sound is more than present when you give them a listen. If you're not a big fan of guitar you may not dig them as they rely on it fairly often to carry the song alongside the synth they incorporate.
