I am one of those people that is constantly looking for new music to check out. I absolutely love finding new bands that end up having songs that become some of my favorites. In order to get you ready for the upcoming year of music, I decided to weed through Spotify and find four indie bands that you are not going to want to miss as 2016 unfolds.
1. St. Lucia
The band is essentially solo artist, Jean-Phillip Grobler. Native to Johannesburg, South Africa, Grobler began writing and performing pop songs under the stage name St. Lucia. He is Brooklyn-based and released the album "Matter" this year. If you enjoy 80s-influenced pop sounds, then you will not be disappointed.
Song favorites:
1) "Dancing On Glass"
2) "Stay"
3) "Love Somebody"
2. The National
Initially shaping itself in Ohio, the band took off in New York. Consisting of Matt Berninger, Scott and Bryan Devedorf and Aaron and Bryce Dessner, the band established themselves with their debut album "The National" in 2001. Although they have clearly been around for awhile since their debut, this band deserves to be recognized for their indie rock and Americana inspired sound.
Song favorites:
1) "I Need My Girl"
2) "Fake Empire"
3) "About Today"
3. Bronze Radio Return
Beginning in Hartford, Connecticut, the indie rock group debuted in 2008. The band is made up by Chris Henderson, Patrick Fetkowitz, Matt Warner, Dan Travis and Rob Griffith. They recently came out with new pieces in their 2015 album "Light Me Up." Their sound is sure to not disappoint and their songs have made a strong rotation on my daily playlist.
Song favorites:
1) "Light Me Up"
2) "Digital Love"
3) "Shake, Shake, Shake"
4. Daughter
This London-formed band consists of members Elena Tonra, Igor Haefeli and Remi Aguilella. The trio released their debut album, "If You Leave" in early 2013 and have since been making folk, electronic music. Their newest album, "Not To Disappear," came out this year. Their rhythmic sounds are something to keep an ear out for as they take on the year with their new album.
Song favorites:
1) "Youth"
2) "To Belong"
3) "Landfill"
As we continue into 2016, these indie bands have a strong hold on the music scene. Their unique sounds make them an indie hit and are definitely worth a listen.
