Should I hang out with my friend today? Nah. Staying home sounds nice. Oh, maybe I should, I would have fun. No, what if it isn't? I could take a nap if I stayed home. But if I go out I could get something to eat...No, no, I will stay home! But what if I regret not going?
Being indecisive can range from not knowing what you're going to eat to not knowing if you should move out of state for a job. It is probably one of the worst feelings not knowing what to do. Everyone says go with your gut, but what if your gut is indecisive, too?!
I personally think indecisiveness is a good feeling. I say this because there could be something behind why we get so anxious on deciding. It is true that delaying a decision can lead to unwanted stress, but what about the times indecisiveness has led to a good time?
Someone once told me, "Indecisiveness is a window to the next opportunity." I believe this is a great way to look at it. Indecisiveness is our way of choosing which path we want to take. Sometimes this can be a tough decision, but if we just jumped into everything without thinking, bad consequences can be made.
A recent event inspired me to write this article. I bought a ticket for a music festival a few months back, but then decided I didn't want to go. However, I changed my mind a few times in the passing months. It brought much stress and anxiety, fogging my head and making me indecisive about other activities during that time. The day before the music festival, I decided to go. My reason was because I would regret not going more than if I went and had a bad time. I believe this decision has made a big impact on my life because I went and had a wonderful time. Making the right decision can be hard, but it is well worth it in the long run!
As many of us are going into a new semester of school this fall, I urge you to look at why you are indecisive. For example, when there is a party but you have a test the next day. What would you decide to do? Where do you think your choice will lead you? I would really appreciate comments to hear your opinion of what you think about indecisiveness. I think it is a tool that allows us to go to the place we are really supposed to be.
