Benjamin Franklin once said, “The U.S. Constitution doesn’t guarantee happiness, only the pursuit of it. You have to catch up with it yourself.”
We are known as the millennials. Many of the people in our generation (not all), have the mindset that we are automatically given what we want in life. I would call this arrogance. Millennials’ idea’s that we are entitled to all the good things in life without working for them, is quite wrong. What happened to the excitement and striving to work hard, go to school to get a good job, to support your and a family's life. What happened to the idea of pursuing happiness with your own sweat and tears. Hard work speaks measures, but whining because something is “unfair” because you didn’t get what you expected, speaks measures about your character- not in a good way. To get to where you'd want to be you have to put in effort, give up some things, and strive for the best and when you do all this, that is when you are pursuing happiness.
Millennials are sensitive. They don’t like being told they are doing something wrong because it makes them feel down about themselves. What most people don’t understand nowadays is that those people correcting their wrongness, are actually showing you where you could build yourself up to be a better person. Looking at your weaknesses and trying to strengthen them is a great way to succeed.
Being happy is something to be strived for. The idea of having a fulfilled life full of moments, people and things you have yearned for is held by many. But, that doesn’t mean that by obtaining things that make you happy you can be reckless. Always ask yourself, is this setting me forward, is it beneficial? People have many different versions of happiness, so what is happiness to you? Does it involve doing things for the ones you love, or does it entail yourself setting off on your own.
Finally my last words, work for what you want, do not step down. If you want that dream bad enough you won’t back down, you will push forward and reach as far and as high as you can to achieve that goal. Don’t give up and look toward the future. Help others and find that true happiness.
Like Will Smith's character in "The Pursuit of Happyness" says,“Don't ever let someone tell you, you can't do something. Not even me. You got a dream, you got to protect it. People can’t do something themselves, they want to tell you, you can’t do it. You want something, go get it. Period,”
