In Honor Of National Grandparent's Day

Because I love my granny more than anything in the world.

In Honor Of National Grandparent's Day
Lou Goodrum

National Grandparent’s Day is on September 11, 2016. In honor of this, I have decided to tell the world about my amazing grandmother, who I call Granny. The reason this day hits so close to home is because September 11 is also her birthday.

My Granny is an amazing woman. She is very forgiving and hardly ever loses her temper. Yet, when she has in the past, there was something about disappointing her that was worse than disappointing my parents. I think it was due to the level of respect I had for her. In fact, I very recently messed up big time at my Granny’s house but she just laughed and let me correct my mistake. It still hit home quite hard, though.

She was probably the first friend I had as a kid. I would always go to her house to make lemon pound cake and angel food cake. I absolutely loved cooking alongside my Granny even though I messed up the recipes many times. In fact, one time she specifically told me not to put eggs into the batter, yet but I did anyway. Luckily, her forgiving nature kicked in and she just laughed.

I love my Granny’s spirit. She may be a few years older than me, (only like one or two, though) but she acts the same way I do (minus the crazy college kid factor). I have always admired her desire to stay in shape. She loves biking around the lake. If I tried biking over eight miles, I would probably fall over and pass out yet she does it with ease (or at least she fakes it until she makes it).

As a kid, she would always take me to Hawaiian Falls Waterpark, which was an absolute ball. Not only that but she would also pack us lunches and we would picnic by the waterslides. In fact, my Granny always made lunches. I think she would have rather died than let me or my brother or my cousin get even a bit hungry. She knew all of our favorite foods. She knew my cousin Wes loved strawberries, but that he had to have sugar to dip them in on the side. I think it was really cool how well she knew each of us so incredibly well.

National Grandparent’s Day is a very important day because grandparents should be treasured. They aren’t your parents so they’re not completely against you. In fact, they probably take your side more than they take your parent’s side. It is always nice having an adult family member to back you up (especially one who your parents still probably slightly fear). I am very lucky to have my sweet Granny in my life and my other grandparents on my mom’s side. To anyone with a grandparent still alive, spend time with them and having a blast. These are some of the best people in the world. So, make sure you thank your grandparents for everything they have done because they deserve a little recognition every now and again.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
