Growing up, every time I met someone new I would look at their shoes. I personally felt that you could tell a lot about someone's background by what shoes they were wearing. It's not super scientific or anything, just something I always do. I asked many of my friends last week, "What is the first thing you notice you meet someone new?" and here are some of the responses.
"I'd probably say their eyes. You can tell a lot about by someone's eyes," said Brannon Hancock.
"How easily they get along with strangers -- just how warm people are is important. Also how tall they are compared to me, that's pretty common for me," said Dia Delso.
"Their breath. If they don't care enough to brush their teeth they aren't very driven," said Jorell Smallwood.
In today's society, many people are focused on people's physical appearance. If someone is well put together, or wearing a suit, they're going places. Girls are obsessed with having the best contour and the guys want to have the nicest clothes. Everyone is dying to have the newest iPhone. And if you aren't buying your girl the most expensive gift, you're going to lose her.
But let me tell you, people go beyond what they look like on the outside or the things they have. I firmly believe that the best people in life don't care what they look like, or what you look like, or even the stuff you own.
Let us be the generation that serves one another and loves all people. Let us be the generation that changes what is valued most. Let us be the generation that when people look into our eyes, they see our compassion for others.
Christ did not place us in this world to have the nicest clothes or best makeup. He put us here to serve a broken world and be a light for His kingdom. With that being said, if you have a passion for make up, use that passion to help share the love of Jesus. If you have clothes you don't wear anymore, bring them to local shelter so someone else can have that nice shirt.
People change people. If we began to believe that statement, we can be the generation that changes society as a whole, serving others in way that we never thought we could. I believe with all my heart that from the moment we meet someone, life changes for both people. It's up to you how you plan on changing that person, and how they will change you.
