Elementary school and high school did teach us some very invaluable lessons, like how the government works, geography and what to look for in a college. But there is a big list of things that I felt very unprepared for after graduating high school and sometimes still do in college. Here is that list. Some of them are really simple, but some of them would take an entire class to teach. Either way, it would have been nice to learn.

1. Insurance.

What does it do?

2. How to manage a social life, a 4.0, and mental health successfully.

I still don't know if it can be achieved.

3. How taxes work.

This would have been useful information.

4. How to use a washer and dryer.

You would be surprised at the amount of freshman that I know who don't know how to do their laundry.

5. Credit Cards.

Are they good? Bad? When should I get one? HELP!

7. How to pay bills.

It's pretty complicated.

8. How to afford to pay bills.

I am still figuring this one out. I will get back to you.

9. Voting.

Just generally more information about elections and politics would have been helpful.

10. How to cook.

Shout out to Home Ec classes! we should have been required to take this every year in high school!

11. Writing out a check and addressing a letter.

I have to admit, I still look these things up on occasion...

12. How to eat healthy while on a $2 budget.

It is the most complicated thing. Almost for complicated than Algebra.

13. Putting gas in your car.

This was the most complicated thing for me when I was 16 and just learning how to drive!

14. How to communicate your feelings without sounding insane.

I know quite a few adults who struggle with this.

15. Information about loans.

Especially in a time where a lot of students are applying to college, this would have been nice information to have.

16. How to confront someone.

Whether it's a friendship, relationship, or an employee.

17. How to act in a job interview.

Just a few tips could go a long way.

18. How to budget wisely.

Having life teach you this lesson is downright cruel.

19. Time management.

Sometimes life gets the best of us and it's difficult to manage our time; it would be helpful to learn how to deal with that stress and ways to manage your time.

20. Dealing with stress (and mental health).

It's OK to seek out help for mental health or when you are feeling down, although not everyone has learned that lesson. I think it would be helpful if teachers taught us at a young age what to do under those stresses.

21. How to jump start your car or change the oil and tires.

Everyone should know these things, yet we never learned them in school.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
