High school, ah some of the best and worst times of my life. Yes, high school taught me a lot about history, tons of complicated math and how to write a MLA style paper. However, though high school taught me a lot there are quite a few things that my high school career did not teach me. The following are just a few of the million things high school did not teach me.

1. How to do taxes

Taxes. That money that we earn each pay check that the government takes away each check. That money that at the beginning of the year we have to hire someone or use an app and follow directions to file. Hello high school and high school teachers, YOU DID NOT TEACH ME THIS! I really think it would be really important for high schools to require a class or even a portion of government to be learning how to file and do your taxes.

2. How to fill out financial aid

When I was a senior in high school this woman came to my high school and called us to the office and filled out our financial aid information for us. She would ask a series of questions and put all that information into the computer. Um, this isn't teaching me how to do it myself. Now I had to learn by teaching myself how to process and find all information i needed to fill out my FASFA information by myself. Wasn't easy.

3. How to manage stress

High school never taught me how to handle stress. In fact, high school caused me tons of stress. From quizzes and tests to hours of homework school caused me stress. I think having a stress management class for students would be helpful. It would teach students how to defuse a situation and maintain happiness and focus.

4. How to properly use social media

Cyber bullying. One of the biggest problems in not only high schools but everywhere. High school never taught us how to use social media correctly. In fact, school systems do not even really believe in enforcing correction to cyber bullying since it doesn't take place in schools. I believe if schools taught students how to use social media more students would get along.

5. How to change myoil

Yes, I learned how to change a tire which is shocking in my behind the wheel class. However, I was not taught how to change my oil. Which then lead to me either having to pay money or ask my dad and boyfriend to change my oil. Four years after high school someone finally taught me how to change my oil. This should also be taught in behind the wheel.

6. How to make friends

All through high school I had friends of all backgrounds. One thing however school did not teach me was how not to be socially awkward when making friends. How do you find a conversation starter? What do you talk about so you aren't being awkward? Come on help students make friends so bullying would happen less.

High school is a very educational time. However, these are just a few of the many things high school did not teach me. I guess somethings high school really cannot prepare you for but it would be helpful if they tried to teach us some of these many life long lessons.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
