Mental health is so important but often overlooked. People are often wearing themselves too thin, getting overly stressed out, tired and sick without truly taking the time to take care of themselves. It's not only important for adults or teenagers, it is important for everyone at every stage of life. Emotionally, physically and socially, we have an obligation to take care of ourselves on a regular basis to ensure that we are doing alright and can handle everything that we're doing or taking on.

Learn how to deal with stress and change. Sometimes this is easier said than done but it's essential to figure out a way that you can cope with stress and change, even if it requires some work. Some people work out, or have routines that help them. I have a fidget cube that can aid me in anxiety situations and even when I need something to fidget with.

Surround yourself with good people. There is really no need to have negative, or unsupportive people around you that are bad influences and impact your life and defeat you. These people need to bring you up and be there when you need someone.

Give the gift of you. Sometimes it's good to take a break from the constant grind and give yourself to people who need it. By this I mean, volunteering or helping someone (friend or not). It will make you feel good, it will make them feel good and you can even meet new people.

5. Value yourself. Now this is different from the point about giving yourself time. You need to always view yourself as someone who is worth the time, effort and good things. Avoid thinking negative things about yourself and make time to do something new and exciting. Make some positive changes for yourself and view yourself as nothing less than worthy.

Of course every person is different and does different things in order to take care of themselves. Now, we can't always do it all by ourselves. Sometimes we need to admit that we need help or even have been neglecting our mental health in order to improve. Many people are resistant in doing this because of other people's reactions, being embarrassed, unsure how to, or who to turn to. The significance in doing so is for your own well-being. Our mental health impacts the way we think, feel and act, and if we are neglecting it then we are not being our best selves. So please, whether you think you "need" to or not, take the time to improve your mental health.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
