The Importance Of Coming Together Instead Of Tearing Down

Girls: stand together in empowerment.

Women our age are always so concerned about what other women are doing. Most of the time, this concern is not of the best interest to the others involved.

A lot of the time girls are more concerned with what another girl is wearing, who they’re dating, and what cool, Instagram-worthy place they’re visiting that day that they spread hate instead of love.

It’s amazing that with so many of us it’s so easy to feel you’re standing alone. If you’ve never experienced what it’s like to be part of a group of women who feel empowered by the other women around them, I encourage you to find this group as soon as possible. It will be life-changing.

Now, I can’t lie and tell you I am the most gung-ho feminist, girl power person there is. However, I can say I do advocate for equal rights for everyone, and I do think girls should stick up for what they believe in. But sometimes, I think we graze over the fact that more women are tearing down other women around them than we think.

I feel that women should start building each other up instead of constantly destroying them. There is enough ridicule in this world coming from other people that we really don’t need it from our fellow gal pals. What’s the sense in doing something so hurtful when the power of women standing together is so strong?

Sometimes, for women my age, we can be swayed in one direction or another. Some people tell us we should be focusing on finding a husband to make a family with, which is usually a main topic of conversation. Others are asking us why we even like to talk to men in the first place because they steal jobs and money from us. Honestly, who knows which way we should be swaying?

I am not here to tell you one or the other. But if we focus less on what role men are playing in our lives, maybe we can focus more of our attention on the role other women play. We can focus on how we can empower other women to reach their highest potential by lighting a spark inside them.

It takes a truly special group of women to light this spark inside of you. This light that screams, "If we all worked together and spread love instead of hate, we can create something so strong it can’t be broken."

Once a group of girls is able to take down all the walls that society makes them build, it is truly something magical. There is a vulnerable woman behind that wall who is capable of accomplishing something amazing if she had the support of her fellow women.

There is a certain essence in the way a girl can present herself when she realizes she has a whole army around her to encourage her in whatever she wants to pursue.

So, I encourage you all to go out there and find that group of girls who is less concerned with the “competition of being a girl” and more concerned with the lifelong relationships you can build with a woman who builds you up instead of knocking you down.

Find those girls who want nothing but the best for you and will stand by your side through anything. It’s amazing what they will do for you. Trust me.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
