This year I have the privilege of voting in my very first election, one surrounded by extreme controversy and polarized opinions. I am excited to say that I am voting for Hillary Clinton, even as I find myself surrounded by peers that do not at all share my views. I am not voting for her simply because she is not a man that thinks of women as objects or that sexual assault is something to joke about. I am not voting for her because the person that runs against her has literally zero experience with politics and no qualifications to become president. I am not voting for her because of anything the orange man has said which personally offends me or entire populations of society. I am voting for Hillary Clinton because she is the best fit for this job which is one of the most important positions any American citizen can hold.
I will vote for Hillary Clinton because she has thick skin, an abundance of experience, intelligence, and diplomacy skill, not because I see her as the “lesser of two evils.” Hillary Clinton is qualified and ready to be the president. I’ve never understood how anyone is able to doubt that. She received her law degree from Yale University and graduated with honor. She was a state senator for 9 years. She was one of the first senators to support and sponsor the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act which helps to close the pay gap between men and women. She was appointed to be the Secretary of State in 2009. In her 69 years on the planet, she has stayed busy and working to break the glass ceiling.
As I get closer and closer to entering the “real” world of adulthood, I become more aware of the problems facing women in modern society. The thought of making less than a co-worker that I am equally qualified with is disturbing and frankly just not okay. She is a champion of women’s reproductive rights and has introduced legislation in order to protect them. She is a supporter of the Global Health Initiative and introduced the Paycheck Fairness Act. She has actual experience introducing effective legislation.
I am not saying Hillary is perfect, but she admits when she messes up. Her young adult life in the church is ingrained within her to serve her fellow man and as a Christian, I am happy to cast a vote in favor of someone with a servant’s heart. I will vote for her because I truly believe that she will fight for a society that is more fair and equal for all. I will cast my vote on November 8th for Hillary Clinton because she has experience, wisdom, thick skin, diplomacy skills and so much more. I’m with her.
